    Fans love power,speed

But footwork is often overlooked by the masses the importance of elite footwork can not be overlooked great footwork means you will always be in the best position to land that shot against the opponent... Freddie roach once said you win fights based of footwork.................:deal

Pac and Golovkin today really show what elite footwork is all about they have mastered it perfectly well :yep

I think trainers need to put more emphasis on footwork training rather than the focusing all the energy on speed and power work........

The reason it's overlooked is because people who are new to boxing or are only casual fans, don't have the understanding of the sport to appreciate its importance.

Things like power, handspeed, strength and the like are easily noticeable to anyone, however the more technical aspects of boxing are ignored by the masses.

I think a good recent fight that shows where footwork was a big difference is Loma-vs-Russell.

Footwork is subtle as opposed to being in your face like power and hand speed. Also footwork comes in various forms. Power is power, speed is speed but footwork is ...different.

You look at someone like Golovkin and his feet seem "slow"...but his footwork is nigh on perfect and he cuts the ring off with complete and utter ease. That's very different to Guillermo Rigondeaux who has good, though far from perfect, defensive footwork. I'm a big admirer of Kosei Tanaka's footwork which transitions attack into defence and vice versa so easily.

Agreed......I also would say just because a boxer is skilled does not mean he as footwork

It's definitely an under rated skill as it is so subtle in it's execution and impact on an opponent. As others have said it's easier to notice the speed or power of a punch rather than the subtle skill that led to that punch landing in the first place.

Whenever I am assessing a boxer the first thing I look for is the their footwork and balance. Not just how quick and light they are on their feet, but their placement and balance. A fighter with great footwork will rarely be off balance if ever and will rarely be out of position.

Nobody ever talks about Garcia's (Mikey) footwork too which I think is absolutely excellent.

Golovkin and rigondeaux are two great examples of offensive and defensive footwork.

With fighters like golovkin they just don't hit and hope they always think if I get to this angle or place my feet here than I can get this shot of......

some fighters have power but no sense of foot placement it just looks wrong when you say a guy who can crack with great footwork its really a sight to behold what really impresses me about golovkin he is always in the best place to land a big shot....

It depends, it's certainly quite flawed but he does some incredible things with his feet as well.
