Froch, portrayed as the ultimate hard man by his supporters, against one of the most explosive punchers in the history of the middleweight divisions. McClellan to overwhelm, drop and finish the open, slow Froch with a two handed blitz in the opening 3 rounds for me.
It's a shoot-out Hagler/Hearns style, IMO. I think Gerald's size, aggression and body punching (never mind power), would win him this fight. Carl's defence is shocking. You need to bamboozle the G-Man with Benn @ 168 movement (plenty of bobbing and weaving). Carl doesn't bob and weave. G-Man within 2 rounds tops.
If Groves can nearly take him out in short order I sense an early demolition job by McClellan..... But then I think to myself, Froch has a much better chin than Nigel Benn and he survived the early bombardment...
I'm not sure McClennan takes this. Froch when it suited could tighten up his defence box and be cagey, he showed that against Abraham. His chin would certainly be tested especially early on, he might even hit the deck but the same punch that Groves put him down with early on he was walking through those same punches later in the fight. Benn survived the onslaught and Froch has a better chin than Nigel and would also be the biggest strongest man McClennan would have faced. I can't really call this one but I probably lean towards Froch.
McClellan was a cut above Froch. Better boxer, better mover, better puncher, better footwork, better body puncher, better everything - just as rangey with even heavier hands.
^^ G-Man was a fantastic Boxer. Abraham is no fantastic Boxer. Besides, Benn's recovery powers are superhuman.
Do you think there was something dodgy about Benn's ability to take McClellan's punches? I remember Benn being stopped by Watson and Eubank and being badly wobbled on other occasions, and find it startling that he survived(with copious help from the referee) McClellan!
Benn bobbed, weaved, and tucked his chin like Froch has never been able to in that fight though. Benn's head was down by McClellan's knees at times. Benn fought so bravely in that one it's blasphemous to mention it now, but the referee was absolutely inept in administering the count in the first round. Just shocking officiating. Chin in the air, ponderous Froch would be hit by both McClellan's right to the head and his even more potent left to the body. It all adds up to an early demolition.
The punch Benn took from Eubank in round seven of their first fight, arguably the sneakiest counter overarm right in history and a shot that had every ounce of Eubank's weight behind it, he had absolutely no right to withstand - nobody did. Benn had a great chin against huge right hands, but short choppy lighter shots tended to stun him! Odd.
I agree about Abraham,just the point I was making was that particularly early on Froch wouldn't be sticking his chin out!
Mccllean or however you spell his name, was crying after his fight with Jackson, complaining of head pain.. We all know what happened after the Benn fight, GM DOES NOT have a B plan if and when his opponent goes past 5 or 6 rounds, we all know Froch will be around a long time in this fight he's too durable.. Froch has a better chin than Benn.. Mccllean dosen't have the Neurological capability to take a large volume of punches of a long hard tough fight, he started blinking rapidly against Benn after round 6... Froch knocks his ass out:deal Besides Mcclleans corner is inept and a bunch of ignorant clowns, tweedle dee and tweedle dumb, look how they handled the Benn fight.. Mccllean is as over-rated as hell, he was out of the sport at 26, Froch is still going strong at 38:hi:, wanna compare careers????????:think
Nobody ever dominated Sanderline Williams like McClellan did on the back foot boxing, he was the only man to KD the slippery Sanderline and did so with this incredible shuffling footwork into position. Gerald chose to be a puncher and early finisher but he didn't need to be, he was just blessed with heavy hands and had amazing timing.
Froch would even have lost to Sanderline Williams, probably by a wide points margin! Dennis Milton was as tricky and quick as Andre Dirrell. Mugabi had a more dangerous right hand than Jermain Taylor or Glencoffe J or Groves, and nobody could miss Froch with that. Keep your hands down against Julian Jackson and ask Nottingham's finest ever fighter Herol Graham what happens!
