Does anyone else here think that Cotto is extremely overrated?

Titles won from actual champions rather than vacant belts: disabled foreman and Martinez. Says a lot really. Hugely overrated.

 

I rated him as very good in the poll, and I think that is just what he has been over the years. To me, he is short of elite.

Is he going to be a very good middle weight?

Is he going to vacate or properly defend the MW belt?

Has Roach made a real or lasting difference in his fighting?

I guess we will see over his next couple of fights.

I don't overrate Cotto, but he does deserve credit for the things he actually achieves, as opposed to what people speculate about.

Cotto is a little overrated, people like him because he doesn't do a lot of ducking (maybe canelo) and he is a very likable guy.

 

He also went life and death with Oktray Urkal and the Chop Chop Corley stoppage was a bit of a farce...

But he looked spectacular against Randal Bailey , Magic Man , Judah , Gomez , Mayorga, destroyed Quintana who beat Paul Williams soon after and gave Mayweather a harder fight than Canelo.

One of his bests performances was in the Margo rematch. He took him apart with sharpshooting precision.

Extremely overrated ?? No.

You want overrated? Watch Canelo V Floyd. Canelo looked like a peasant journeymen. Lost to Lara, almost got KOd by Cotto's brother... Refused to Call out Sergio Martinez and will not even utter GGG's name.

Cotto has ***** and if he has more interest in avenging his lost to Floyd, so beit.

That's what happens when you beat the lineal MW champ. Like OP said, anyone with an objective eye can see Sergio was a cripple for the fight, not even being able to properly plant and explode his legs. Sure, Sergio will never admit that his legs were a problem because he wanted to cash out but any decent MW would've beaten Sergio that night.

Cotto is a very skilled boxer but he does get overrated. A lot of his wins, as OP pointed out, came when his opponent's had health issues.

 

ME, hes so overrated. He comes close to being the most overrated boxer today however that award goes to canelo.

Theres a reason why floyd desperately wants to fight him, he knows its an easy win.

Cotto only has power, speed, chin, great skills, several titles and a strong record - with notables victories over Mosley, Judah, Clottey, Martinez, Margarito, Malignaggi...
