Muhammad Ali is rightfully the Father of Boxing because he revolutionised and transcended the sport to new heights. He's bigger than Boxing and changed the world. No other boxer can be compared to him because they'll obviously pail in comparison to his greatness. This is a clear fact and every single Boxing fan should know this. End of story.

Your very first post ever, & your undeniable aspiration is to be the most transcendentally successful troll ever.

    Fair do.

I always thought that he made that commercial during his exile. But I recently round it that it is not so.

Angelo Dundee referred to this commercial as when he started to see a bit of the robotic head movement from Ali and hear his speech slip.

Ali was a great celebrity and a great boxer. The modern celebrity cult has transformed into something that transcends boxingÂ… but I am not sure that transcendence signifies anything more than transcendence for transcendence's sake.

Was there a black athlete that talked to white sports reporters like that before Ali? In America? A basketball player, a baseball player, something?

    Jim Brown? Not sure.

Was what Ali said anymore dangerous and threatening to the establishment than what Johnson said and did in his era?

Not to belittle Ali at all, but he was the right guy at the right time. And much of what he said would be entirely verboten today.

I remember Ali was told by one reporter " you're being rather truculent" and Ali said " well whatever truculent means, if its good I'm that."

No, Johnson's patter was far more "dangerous" but Ali was on telly. Ali might have been the right man at the right time you know, a guy can come along and just be the right guy for that time. Johnson was the wrong man in his time - he would have been the right man in Ali's time.

    I wonder about Jim Brown.

I would say he was the only one who could have got away with a lot of the stuff he said and did, somehow it just fitted his entire persona and on the whole, the general public lapped it up.

    I like:

    "Just keep your mouth shut."

    "You know that's impossible."

    "Keep your mouth shout."

"Impossible. I'm knocking out all the bums. And if you get too cute i'll knock you out."

    To a white reporter.

This was pre-Liston days, before that fight was made. Your quote I think was to Howard Cossel in the ring after one of the post-Liston pre-ban opponents.
