It was the right time. The telly, as you observe, was on the ascendance. The Civil Rights Movement was in full swing. Ten years earlier and God knows what happens if he talked like that.

Ali is among the most important people who happened to be a boxer. He rose in important times and tho not perfect in his responses to that time made a historic impression.

He is hardly the Father of Boxing. He is perhaps the Father of Style that Polluted the Heavyweight Ranks for a few decades... wherein much less talented fighters discovered they couldn't get away with the stuff Ali could.

Yeah, whitey thought Ali (or Clay) was cute and funny, so they laughed when he said those things.
He was cute and funny and charming - entirely NON-threatening in many ways.
    A handsome court jester.

Yep, I'd guess most of his detractors are under 35 years of age, and consequently don't matter anyway. No other athlete had the Universal recognition Ali had in his time, not Joe Louis in his era, not Jessie Owens, not even arguably the best fighter who ever lived SRR. No one.

Ffs Ali was even more of a celebrity, than professional celebrities, at one stage the most recognised face on earth. People in countries that didn't much give a fvck about boxing knew who he was.

Not bad for a semi literate fighter from Louisville.

But even in a black supremacist cult he could find time to be cute and funny for whitey.
    A truly remarkable man.

Yeah I remember that one as well. He was a mouthy kid but also witty and funny. Most 22 year old kids with minimal education couldn't pull off what he did. A true showman and talented at more than just boxing.

Jim may have did it, but he was definitely more dangerous than Ali ever was.

A bit over the top, but not without merit. At one point it was said of Ali he had the most recognisable face on the planet. Hard to argue that is not transcending the sport. Ali had an enormous impact on boxing and the world in general.

I liked how Ali told the Government to Pi$$ off, because they wanted him to go to Vietnam, he took a stand, saying something similar to the fact, that he wasn't gonna go fight that White man's war:lol:..

I think they did a study a while back maybe 10 years ago, who had the most recognizable face on the planet, Ali was tied with Elvis..

Any sportsman who's fame and recognition transcends his sport is special.
All sports exist in their own universe and fame is usually contained within that world.
The true greats transcend their sports and no sportsman did this more emphatically than Ali.

I mentioned it because most Boxing fans like you have no knowledge on the history of the sport.

The sport of Boxing doesn't need clueless fans like you who doesn't understand the greatness of Ali. A piece of advice, google about Boxing history and then come back to me.

That statement to shows me that you still have a lot to learn about the Father of Boxing. Legendary People like Muhammad Ali, Bruce Lee, Micheal Jackson, etc changed the world in what they did.

Don't joke about the FOB. Respect the FOB.

At least someone has sense on this forum. Kudos to you.

The people who first boxed doesn't make them the FOB. It's the person who revolutionised and transcended the sport makes them achieve FOB status and that's Ali.

This shows that you don't understand Ali's greatness and have zero knowledge on Boxing history. Please, go and get a lesson on Boxing history instead of stating mumbo-jumbo.

Like i said, Muhammad Ali is the Father of Boxing because he revolutionised and transcended the sport to new heights. No to mention, he is the most popular and influential boxer of all time.

If you can't concede to facts then you obviously have some serious issues.

If you had one clue about the sport's history you would know that John L Sullivan revolutionized the sport in the 1880's and that Dempsey & Co. were at the head of its second revolution.... You might also know how to spell "revolutionized"...

Ali was a great, great fighter, second greatest heavy in my opinion. He also rode a wave of celebrity that outshone his accomplishments in the ring after a time.

Further evidence has shown you are not a troll.

You are an extremist who forms unwarranted opinions based upon no evidence.
You just smeared a bunch of folks who did not agree with you as ignorant instead of just answering their claims.

You are just incorrect in assigning the words "father of boxing" to someone who transcended the sport & revolutionized it out of the ring more so, in the ring should be reserved by those who had popularized completely unknown or barely used styles.

Youa ssumed I know nothing about boxing despite what i have posted. Probably did not bother to research what I have written.

You asumed I was hating when there is also zero evidence for this.

But when you use hyperbolic language like "no boxer could ever compare to him", in addition to falseley say he was the father of Boxing...

It is eminently reasonable to believe you are trolling.
Not just immaturely contemptuous & making unsupported sweeping judgements about all who dare disagree with you. Even politely.

FYI: I have Ali as my GOAT. He was a temendous athlete & personality & social revolutionary with great charm.

He also tended to be naive politically & programmed by other's to meet their agenda.

He was unforgiveably CRUEL to some boxers. Like Frazier, who helped him numerous times to try & get his boxing license back at the highest levels, gave him money no questions asked...
Ali victimized & betrayed his friend KNOWING the effect & pretended it was all to promote the fights. And never fully apologized, to say the least.

He represented black causes well, but also acted like a racist.
He spoke at a KKK rally in favor of segregation in a surreal moment.

He was an intuitive genius who was flawed, not a very well integrated personality.

Just hating or worshiping uncritically is factually & morally wrong.

But a great man & loving & kind in some ways too.

if he was the father of something much older than him he must have been even more amazing than physics would allow.
