weight class in boxing and take its rightful place.
As this year we will see Klitschko vs undefeated Bryant Jennings at Madison Square Garden.
A busy, undefeated American knockout artist champion Deontay Wilder calling out Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko.
A potential match between Fury and Klitschko

add to the mix Lucas Browne, Andy Ruiz, Charles Martin, Vyacheslav Glazkov
…and a slew of up and coming new talent to watch for the future- Anthony Joshua, Joseph Parker, Hughie Fury…plus add the 3 Chinese heavyweights Taishon Dong, Zhang Zhilei and Zhang Junlong and even a cruiserweight that should move up Jordan Shimmell. The talented Glory kickboxing champion champion Rico Verhoeven will make a splash as he turns to boxing.

Lots to discuss as we hopefully can leave the two aging welterweights behind.

No mention of Povetkin vs Perez? That has the potential to be the most exciting heavyweight match in a lot of years if Perez can work out his mental issues.

Yes....both have the potential to make news in the years to come but I think that Wilder and Fury are the exciting links.

Sad to say but HW will only rise in recognition once Wlad retires and leaves the sport.

I strongly disagree. The division NEEDS Wladimir Klitschko -a boxer cut from that '96 Olympics pedigree- to fight on as long as possible. Wlad keeps the bar set where it should be. To become Heavyweight Champion of the World, all roads should lead through the best man in the division.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'd rather not see any out of shape former cab drivers or blown up Cruiserweights taking over boxing's top prize. If anyone disagrees with me, then I respect your right to do so, but I'm standing by the belief that Wlad is holding the HW division's relevance together. That's why what the Champ (Wlad) does is so important these days.

    I somewhat agree.

If someone beat a faded Wlad for the title that would be better than him retiring with it

I seriously doubt he loses to any fighter in the next three to five years. He's simply that much better (in terms of skills, experience, and athleticism) than the rest of the division. I see no one beating him any time soon.

You're probably right but Fury and Wilder are interesting fights and I wouldn't be that surprised if he lost either one of those

I hear that HW is a popular division in Europe...so do you mean "rightful place" in the US?

I kind of hope not. It tends to be the least exciting/entertaining division just based on the physics and the cautious nature of the fighters (totally makes sense too, fights can end on one punch when you're a giant).

HW boxing had its moment in the sun for decades and has only fallen off (relatively) recently, give some other divisions a chance to shine for a while.

That said, boxing is a free-market and if the HW can be exciting/interesting/compelling again there is no reason why it shouldn't be aknowledged.
