Excuses, excuses. I got one Vitali took the fight on two weeks notice and nearly knocked Lewis out early and if he hadn't got his eye split open, he would most likely beaten Lewis or at least came damn close.

I also saw a video with Vitali Klitchko saying he had been training hard for the last year at his chance for the world championship, he was as ready as he would ever be, his skin werent.

Getting old is generally accepted as a decent excuse

And a lot of Lennox's best wins are against old slightly past it or previously KO'd opponents. So they had an excuse as well.

Its far greater name wise yes, because the opponents he beat were well known Americans and Europeans who are for some reason automatically considered bums by most American audiences. Most of Lewis' opponents beat a whole lot of bums and had a few close matches that were notable because of the popularity of the sport at the time. Wlad's opponents no one truly knows how good they really are but even though many of them are undefeated they are written off as bums by US audiences because of lack of name recognition.

Exactly. On the one hand you take away from Lewis' achievements by saying Tyson and Holyfield were past it. Lewis was older than both when he fought Vitali and you don't seem to accept amybe he was past it.

    Level the playing field

90s was one of the weakest eras in history. Blown up cruiserweight dominated most of the decade. Even 46 years old foreman managed to win two thirds of HW title.

If you consider a bunch of multiple time losers and old past it shot versions of once great fighters with name recognition then sure, but in reality most of Wlad's opponents would probably fare pretty well against Lewis opposition at the time in their career he fought them.

Do you really think Wlad would be troubled in the least by anyone Lewis fought when he fought them. Today's version of Wlad would destroy Lewis' comp just as easily and in a few cases like with Holyfield and Tyson maybe even better than he did.

I'm criticizing his whole career not just the Vitali match. Sure he was a little past it when he fought Vitali but I'm not all that impressed now or even when it was happening with Lewis record as a whole.

    No, he's not overrated.

Had he beat McCall and Rahman at the first time of asking I think he'd very clearly be number 3 all time at Heavyweight (and has an argument anyway).

I also think at his motivated best he could beat any heavy in history head to head.

thats true. tyson wasnt a good win at all lets be honest, just a big name, the fighter was 17 years removed from his peak.
holyfield wasnt what he was but it was an okay win. grant was a hype job, but lewis destroyed him.

id say povetkin, haye, ibragimov were better wins than those 3 wins.

Lewis never fought a slick, elusive, speedy fighter. If he beat byrd his resume would look much better and increase his stock. Wladimir has fought far more styles than lewis, wladimir has beaten almost every style. lewis fought 3 decent short heavyweights who could punch and tough, tua, mason, mercer, they were all plodding and predictable. alot of lewis' opponents were statues there to be hit, he never had to go looking for a byrd, chambers, haye - he may of had trouble.

However Lewis fought Big men Big punchers, the decade of the SHW Sluggers. And he defeated most of them easily. He beat every man he fought, he wasnt worried about mccall or rahman one bit. they had his titles on loan. Lewis knew he was the daddy of the Era. Wladimir is only starting to believe he is the daddy. Because he had some help from his brother and he wasnt as assured as lewis. Wladimir beating wilder and fury, two young huge athletic fighters with boxing ability, if he beats them, you have a major case for ranking him above lewis.
