    Moanamchara,

I don't think that people form an opinion just solely based on that one punch. But it's not as ridiculous as what you think. Again, Joe was always relatively easy to hit. The fact that a gun shy, near 40 year old version of Roy dropped him, naturally leads people to believe that Roy could also have landed that shot in his 20's. You can pick any version of Joe that you like. He was always susceptible to a shot like that.

The shot that Roy threw didn't connect properly, because his timing was out.

Joe was easy to find, and Roy in his prime would easily have found him.

Joe would certainly have been cautious about getting tagged by a prime version of Roy. That goes without saying. Offensively, Joe held no advances whatsoever over Roy.

That's not true in the slightest.

Roy didn't carefully pick his opponents.

There's evidence where he tried to fight Benn, Liles, Dariusz M, (in the U.S.) Hopkins II, and Holyfield.

Joe tried to fight Ottke and Hopkins, but he was more than happy to fight WBO mandatories for the majority of his career.

Roy missed a lot of great potential fights at MW when he was young. But when he was in his prime, who was out there that was the equivilant of any of the Fab Four? There were good fights out there for him, but he never had a rival like Ray Leonard etc had. That's the truth. The nearest thing was Toney in 94. Roy was certainly on the Fab Four's level, but his resume is weaker.

You want further proof Lou watch the first 3 Rds of their fight ..If Roy still had his legs for a full 12 rds Joe would have been confused ..What made Jones very difficult of a fighter was his foot speed and movement

Look guys Calzaghe is retired. He retired to a life of coke, alcohol, chasing ho's & killing innocent little rabbits rather than be a man & rematch Bernard Hopkins in his homeland Wales
Just let the over rated slapper STAY retired I'm tired of hearing about him

On a sidnote, Chris Eubank in an interview expressed his concern about fighting Roy Jones Jr, due to the heavy leather that would have been dished out. Chris was one tough son of a *****, who at the tailor end of his career went on to fight Carl Thompson at CW. Twice, in fact.

That's an indication of the pressure Roys power brought with it.

If Roy didn't have that amount of firepower, I would have picked Joe Calzaghe to beat him prime for prime. Outboxing Joe was very hard. He had the workrate to outland you, the stamina to keep going, the footwork to stay with you, adaptability and the angles to break your rhythm, and the quickness needed to take the pace. Joe was not flawless, though, and the right boxer at his best could probably have defeated him when he had a bad night. But that's a bit like winning on the lottery.

What you can do about Joe, or at least what should have been possible, is to destroy him. To crack his skull open. Mikkel Kessler landed several flush shots, and even if Mikkel was a strong, complete fighter he rarely fought the absolute best. If those shots had landed with a lot more power, say the power delievered when Roy was going strong, I think we would have seen a KO or a stoppage in the middle rounds. Or a Joe in survival mode. And once you try to box Roy from the outside, he has you where he wants you.

Stylewise, I think a crazy ******* like a physical prime Carl Froch would have caused Roy more stress. I also believe Glenn Johnson would have been a danger. As god as Roy was, he didn't fought that many top names. Bernard Hopkins, James Toney and Antonio Tarver springs to mind. Had he done it more often, an upset could have occured. That's how boxing works.

EDIT: Oh, I almost forgot: All it would have take was one punch.

its remarkable that throughout almost the entire 46 joe was able to fool people like you that he was defending a world title, true.

    true, I stand corrected.

43-0 plus 3 good opponents, no blueprint for fighting nobodies.

To say Gimperial thinks nobody will remember the GOAT at 168, he sure comments a lot on the 'Zaggers super thread. He must be in awe of a man who's not scared of a level playing field and doesn't use PEDs.
