I've managed for six years now just fine. ;)

Real boxing fans don't care about hype or the glitzy promotional side of things or the celebrity aspect of the names involved.

I'll watch, yeah, but I won't pay for it unless the undercard is stellar (and if Dan's tweet about 1 TR bout and 1 MP bout is true, it probably won't be) - and I don't expect it to be even a top 15 candidate as FOTY, if there is even any in-the-ring drama period.

Decades from now I won't be nearly as excited telling my grandkids I watched this overdue mismatch live as telling about how I watched the Vazquez-Marquez trilogy.

Yeah and if Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan of today played a game of H.O.R.S.E. for charity it would probably sell more tickets than any current NBA game could, including game 7 of the Finals.

Does that mean the quality of basketball played by 36 year old Kobe and 52 year old Michael would be higher than you will see in the finals (or hell, even the ASG)? Would it be even remotely proportionate to its hype?

Of course it wouldn't. Same here.

you talk "real boxing fans" and yet, you describe the exact opposite. A historical event like a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight, late as it may be, "REAL BOXING FANS" will still see it is a great fight and a competitive fight! Real boxing fans will watch the fight, because this is a REAL boxing megafight that'll rejuvenate the sport of boxing. A fight between #1 and #2 P4P. Real boxing fans will watch that. Real boxing fans still recognize these dudes are still elite and amazing. Those who refuse to watch this fight or not even get excited about it...I would question if they are a real boxing fan at all.

It won't rejuvenate anything. It will come, and go (and not be all that great or live up to its hype in the least, trust me) and they'll both retire and boxing will be exactly where it has been.

Be honest how many of you keep checking shots for Floyd's announcement? It's 8:17pm in the UK and I won't be hitting the sack for a few hours until I hear the inevitable :D

Its like you dont like the sport.

It will rejuvenate it in every way possible. They will be pumping up PBC as well. Casuals will be watching.

Fact: If you are a fan of boxing you will be watching this fight.

    Dying?

You have a very sad, pessimistic point of view on this fight. Luckily, I haven't heard many with the same one.

Take away five groups of people (all lacking in credibility):

    1. Pacquiao fanatics/groupies (not objective, not to be taken seriously)
    2. Mayweather fanatics/groupies (not objective, not to be taken seriously)
    3. Pacquiao haters (not objective, not to be taken seriously)
    4. Mayweather haters (not objective, not to be taken seriously)
    5. Casuals who DKSAB and these are the only two names they even know (not remotely knowledgeable, not to be taken seriously)

...and who really cares about this match-up? Nobody. :thumbsup

Boxing has been no more "dying" lately than it was 100 years ago when people said the exact same thing. (and were just as wrong)

One big "superstar" match-up doesn't make or break the sport.

Boxing doesn't need Mayweather, or Pacquiao, or to see them fight. If they do, great, whatever. If they don't, great, whatever. They're going to both retire soon anyway. There will be new "big names" to replace them. So the cycle turns.
