Yeah, I mean unless it had a mane or a tail, Holyfield would sign for the fight.

But I think it's interesting that Holyfield thanked Lewis - for being so intimidating, for helping to make a lot of Holyfield's biggest fights. He said something along the lines of the "the guys who ducked Lewis wanted to fight me."

    PowerPuncher:

Utter BS Holyfield/Bowe/Moorer/Tyson ran from Lennox to the hills from '92 until '99 when Holyfield finally stepped up.

Powerpuncher is a moron. You saved me some time typing in a similar response.

There was no legal demand for Lewis to fight
    any of those you named.

I don't care where Lewis comes from actually.

Fitzsimmons was 9 years old when his family emigrated to NewZealand so no ,he didn't fight in the UK.:patsch

Fitz had his first boxing tutelage in Timaru New Zealand, from
Jem Mace whose home was Birmingham England.
Fitz was known as the Timaru Terror and he fought Mace's protégé Herbert Slade ,a Maori in a novice tournament, Mace pulled Slade out to save him from a ko .

"Between 1880 and 1881, Fitzsimmons reigned as champion of the Jem Mace tournament in New Zealand. Some say[who?] he officially began his career as a professional boxer in New Zealand later in 1881. Records remain unclear whether he received payment for a bout in which he knocked out Herbert Slade in two rounds.
Fitzsimmons had six fights in New Zealand, two of them bare-knuckle events. He won one and lost five. It remains unclear whether any of those bouts involved payment"

It was Mace who advised the 17 years old Fitz to go to Australia and look up Larry Foley .
BTW. Lewis was born in London, and has dual British and Canadian citizenship.

Have you any idea how ridiculous you have made yourself look with this thread?:think

I think that the Ruddock fight gave a lot of people the impression, that fighting Lennox Lewis was not a good idea, if you had some sort of title to loose.

There seems to be a bit of a pattern from there.

I also can't find when and how Holyfield 'ducked' Lewis. If anything, clearly past-prime Holyfield fought Lennox Lewis 2 times in a row, and wanted 3rd fight when he was already 40 (after Holy beat Rahman).

That was a shock. However, at that time Lennox wasn't consistant and didn't look nearly as good as in Ruddock fight in the Billups, Bruno, Tucker and McCall fights (all the fights were in 92-94).

After teaming with Steward Lennox became a more complete fighter and developed his jab. Though 92-94 Lennox was also an outstanding HW, he was still raw in some ways.

Byrd and Ruiz were third raters fights no one wanted to see fighting for a title because they weren't good enough. Anyone with eyes saw Golota handle Ruiz and Byrd, they didn't earn title shots. Would you have preferred if Lewis didn't fight Vitali but fought Ruiz and Byrd

There's no reason to face them when your going in with the heir apparent (Grant) and an ATG in Tyson. Lewis gave the public and the networks the fights they wanted every time.

It's absolutely ridiculous to say there are holes in Lewis's resume when some of those fighters like Foreman openly stated they wanted no part of him.

Lewis has about 10 or 12 wins better than Wlad or Vitali and probably the best resume in history

And yes you are a racist dyslexic autistic who spins things to hype up white heavyweights. Everyone on here knows you have an obsession with hyping up white heavyweights and detracting from black heavyweights. That's how race factors into the discussion.

He definitely doesn't have "10 or 12 wins better than Wlad...". Wlad is on his way to a better resume.

There is no evidence is there Bowe or Holyfield would have taken the fights at this time. Bowe could have fought Lewis anyway with them both coming off recent losses.

Holyfield himself says everyone avoided Lewis. Eventually when Holyfield and Tyson took the fights they lost. It says it all.

It hurts Klit fans to here the truth, but really Wlad's opposition is poor compared to the better eras. Every true boxing fan knows that. Lennox easily has better opposition, it isn't remotely close. Wlad is arguably as good but doesn't have a decent level of opposition to display it against.

Wlad has several more title defenses (14 vs. 22).

    Numbers don't lie.
