that'd be a great excuse, if he weren't fighting lee next. he missed out on 1.4 million for nothing. either he ducked, or hayman screwed him.
Just to set everyone straight - Golovkin has no WBO standing, and at the time the WBO was not on board with the WBC-led initiative for unifications. Some people just suspect that Lee will unify if he keeps the title, because he already signed the dotted line to face GGG once already. That fight was called off due to the untimely passing of Golovkin's father. Some people also suspected Korobov would have unified because he said he wanted to face Golovkin again (they fought in AMs) and were both HBO fighters. Obviously HBO would have paid well for a Korobov-GGG unification had he won. Golovkin went the WBC route instead of the WBO route and now stands as Cotto mandatory.
Yeah that reason never made any sense to me. He needed to relinquish belt to make fights against the top of the division? At the time Korobov was highly rated and his mandatory, and its not like he fought anyone else of note instead. It would also have been a big event at Barclays where both have fans, and would have bbeen Quillins first job headlining (remember, he is still an undercard fighter) :conf In the end, only Quillin and Haymon know for sure.
Pete said GGG is "too risky".......and that there's not enough money to make the fight. I will tell you that GGG offers Pete his career high payday if he does decide to fight him down the road. Peter Quillin talks possible showdowns with Martinez and GGG http://youtu.be/k5j264Mkfo8
X, once you use the boxing term "duck", you can never go back on that lol. I trust Haymon had his best interest. Guys with Quillin, Cotto, GG's talent don't duck fighters for ANY reason. :nono
Cotto's to small he could barley hang with trout. Canelo ? Lmao Quillen ? Didn't he go life and death with a few c level fighters ? The only guys that challenge GGG are in higher weight divisions
Johnny, they said Quillin ducked Korobov. And he has Haymon as his advisor! Mathematically does that even make sense?
I think several guys at 140-147 beat Pac I don't praise him I'm a realist Matthysse Thurman Just to name a few :deal Pssssh.. Pac was dominating Marquez before the knockout quillen was in a life and death struggle the whole fight vs a bum
