This guy was the most phenomenally athletic fighter in the history boxing.

Can you imagine for a moment what RJJ would to -- Martin Murray? If RJJ made James Toney -- one of the most gifted defensive fighters of his era -- look silly at times, can you imagine what he'd do to the Murray the slow-footed high-guarder with no pop?

Visualize it for a second. It wouldn't be a gruelling 11 round affair. It would be over whenever Roy decided so.

 

I think GGG is the right kind of pressure fighter to give Roy trouble. He apply force in a calculated fashion and has severe power. This is not to say GGG would win, just that I think it's a realistic outcome. Roy fought A-level opponents, but not on a consistent basis, so you never know what a specifik clash of styles can do. Beating Toney, a somewhat green Hopkins and Tarver, who executed gruesome vengance later on, is not enough for me to believe that Roy is an unbeatable quantity.

Also saying one of the greatest am boxers in history wouldn't land on Superman is showing your bias POV in this so I won't even read your reply to this.

 

Roy would be on severe disadvantage when it comes to GGG's power in relation to Roys mandible fortitude. If GGG would be able to close in on him, we can rule out the possibilty that Roy would be able to avoid it all. When you have a skillfull pressure fighter close up, it simply isn't possible.

If Roy could use his footwork to control the distance for the bigger part of the fight, he'd win by a wide margin. Or if he KO'd GGG with a single shot, which is a possible option. GGG leaves himself open and we don't know how well he can take a shot with the kind of power Roy could bring.

But saying that GGG would be unable to land, is to be very optimistic.

GGG has got severe power. But look at Roy's feet back then. I can't see how he'd have landed anything flush. GGG's never fought an A level opponent. Hopkins was 28 when Roy beat him with a fractured hand. That version of Hopkins would have given GGG a good fight. I love GGG, but bump this thread in a few years.
