Martin Murray: Defining The Word Warrior

The first body shot Martin moved along the ropes square on and took a beauty to the solar plexus, that took a lot out of him but it was as much Martin making a mistake with his feet as GGG punch selection

 

The word warrior seems to be used loosely imo , id define someone like Castillo or Gatti a warrior arsthey went toe to toe , Murray as much as i like him offered little in terms of attack, in all fairness he took a complete bleeching start to finish

It is the standard rhetoric drivel dished out for limited british fighters who always come up short at elite level.

The fanboys attempt to salvage something from the loss and pretend that there is greater ability being brutalised for 11 rounds than actually winning the fight

More praise is given to the loser than the guy who actually delivered the beating

 

I just saw it for what it was,Murray was simply outgunned in there against a wrecking machine.
He did unload on GGG plenty of times but he simply didn't have the power to deter him or gain his respect. Whenever he held his ground in the centre of the ring he almost had parity,but he inevitably retreated to the ropes which basically was suicide,but it's easy for us non combatants to say you should hold your ground when there's bombs repeatedly being fired your way.
I think he does deserve praise for the heart he showed because it would have been easy for him to bail out after those two sickening body shots which put him down in the 4th, and I think he is a genuine tough guy but I agree with some we shouldn't over do the gallant loser routine.

 

I struggle to understand the criticism of Murray in terms of offering nothing offensively, he did land a lot of punches on Golovkin, just had no impact due to
his lack of power and Golovkin's iron chin

Murray did more in defeat than GGG's last 5 opponents combined. The criticism of him on here is embarrassing.

 

The criticism I have is how negative Murray was, the constant attempts to grab and hold were embarrassing. On more than one occasion Murray looked like he RAN towards GG to grab hold of him.

I just can't see a reason to praise a performance like that, do we see threads praising the journeymen up and down the country who week in and week out, on very short notice, turn up, are on the end of one sided beatings for next to no money who also show heart, courage and durability?
No we don't so why does Murray deserve to be held up as some kind of warrior because he took an 11 round beating?

 

Well done murray how great you were to take those uppercuts, right hooks and going down only twice

Well done murray for not contesting the decision to stop the fight, what a f-ing warrior

What a warrior for hitting a wide open goading GGG with ineffective shoe shining shots

What a warrior for getting paid thousands for serving as a body in the ring.

 

You must have been watching a completely different fight to me.

If you think he was constantly attempting to hold, I dread to think how you'd describe a standard Wlad fight.

The fact you cannot distinguish between a journeyman taking a beating versus Martin Murray standing up to a P4P top 5 fighter who is arguably the hardest hitting boxer P4P is beyond me.

Murray held and tried to hold as often as he could, even at times when there was no need to.

I dislike Wlad's style with a passion for what it is worth but he has found a style that has worked for him and fair play.

I repeat, Every fighter shows courage just fighting, I do not see threads praising journeymen for their courage, heart and durability so I am not understanding a thread praising Murray for showing what you would expect from ANY fighter.

Murray's performance is being wildly over exaggerated simply because he ran and held his way through 11 rounds.

I didn't see even a suggestion of a bruise on Golovkin's face so this "great display" everybody seems to be praising couldn't even produce a bruise on his opponents face.

 

Very harsh comments on Murray, I actually think he gave as good as he got in the quite a few rounds early and late and I think he showed how easy GGG is to hit.

 

In the post fight photos GGG has a bit of a shiner

haven't watched the fight yet. Just saw the KD's in the 4th round

 

Murray deserves the warrior tag. Hard man indeed. Was severely outgunned but managed to stay in their. Talk of the fight being stopped prematurely as well as some of the other chat on the thread ridiculous. I fathom a guess that none of them have ever boxed before.
