I'm personally of the opinion that Mamba is the superior coach to Senior.

The sampling is now large enough to make a fair comparison, with Floyd Sr. in the head trainer role since February of 2013 (serving as the chief second from Guerrero through Maidana II).

Muddying the issue, of course, is the advent of age on which some might blame Mayweather getting hit a bit more often in this series of 4 last fights. Also, in the preceding two year period (his last with Roger as head coach) it was hardly as though Mayweather never got touched, with Cotto bloodying his nose, Mosley landing that famous hurtful blow in the 2nd, and Ortiz in the eyes of some having spurts of "success" in the early going with his wild offense.

Does the replacement of the longtime presence of his uncle with that of his tempestuous father have any impact either way on the upcoming fight? :think Would he be in slightly better shape for this assignment with Roger as the main voice, or worse?

...yes, because he knows he is on camera and is a massive show pony, and that could be distracting and irritating for Jr. :think

Has Roger ever imparted any advice aside from "keep doin' what you doin'" and "box that mother****er"?

During a fight? No. He lets Floyd get in the zone and motivate himself, and provides a consistent, familiar voice of calm & reassurance, which is all Floyd needs from the person in that role - to maintain the atmosphere he wants to have in the corner when he sits on that stool.

For game planning, we don't know what either of the brothers cooks up ahead of time as we've never gotten more than brief glimpses into a training camp (just those few open workouts, starting with the Cotto fight) but we can scrutinize his performances under each and deduce who's the better strategist. My hunch is that Roger is.

It doesn't matter. Both have trained him. It isn't a mistake to have one or the other. I've heard both coach Floyd under pressure. Both were excellent under pressure. Floyd Jr. knows best.

I agree with this. i think Floyd does his own game planning in between rounds. i think he doesnt even listen to them sometimes

It's hard to say. Supposedly, Roger is known as having a more offensive approach, while Sr.'s approach is defensive.

If you favor Floyd fighting a highly defensive, low output style in this fight, I guess Sr. would be more favorable.

If you favor Floyd coming out and as he usually does against southpaws, aggressively, Roger is your guy, right?

I hope he comes out aggressively, but that's because I'm a Pacquaio fan.

Off topic, but that made me wonder how FMJ would do with Tim Lane in his corner, in case Tim wouldn't let him out of his cage?:think
