I've always thought that it was a bit of a myth that Holmes was especially vulnerable to right hands. Its true that all the knockdowns that he suffered in his career were all from right hands but that was IMO was due mainly to the fact that all the big punchers that he fought were all big right hand punchers. Apart from Gerry Co0ney, there weren't that many big left hook punchers that Holmes met during his time at the top.

Ali was knocked down by left hookers everytime he went down yet you hardly ever hear it said that Ali had a weakness or vulnerability against left hooks.

Holmes was no more vulnerable to right hands than Ali was to left hooks.

    How abouts Oliver Mccall?

Mccall had a very good right hand, Holmes fought him and wasn't down or out.

It's not even a myth .. D'Amato thought it would work for Mike Tyson but pretty much bo one combined speed and power like the young, prime Tyson , no one .. It's just a myth here a few guys seem to like to keep repeating about Larry .. pretty amazing considering his outstanding record against huge fighters and punchers .. Jack Johnson is supposed to be the greatest defensive heavyweight of all time but he went down or was hurt multiple times .. Dempsey was, Tunney was, Louis was, Marciano was, Liston was, Frazier was, Foreman was, Ali was, ect .. other than Vitali no one can claim to have not been dropped or hurt .. it is a trumped up claim ..

Holmes was a pretty ordinary defensive fighter in general.I wouldn't say he was especially vulnerable to any one punch.

good call RC The Max could be a problem for Larry and would more than likely have been the best opponent Larry faced
