I think Foster would decision Monzon...and Monzon knew better to move up. But if it would have happened, I don't think Foster blows him out. Foster's eye opening KO of Tiger came at the end of his (tiger's)career...Tiger may have been fighting cancer at that point...also Henry Hank fought Foster 2x, didn't come close to winning...stopped in 9, but also went the distance. Also I wouldn't pick Finnegan over a Monzon either. Definitely comparing apples and oranges here...But is it relative when discussing apples and oranges? Yes it is...

Monzon is rated at or near the top of the middleweight food chain, lesser fighters have found success moving move to light heavy. I don't like the style match up for Monzon...but I don't think he gets KO'd...Too smart. Too good.

You're right, he was too smart and too good to be ko'ed. Maybe I'm wrong about him losing by decision too.

Interesting. That says a lot. You'd think Foster would just blast him but maybe not.

Monzon had 100 fights...only 3 losses, never stopped, .and he reversed those losses Admittedly he had 9 draws, such was the way in Argentine boxing, but that was when he was developing. Monzon developed slowly, I suppose...I think was only decked 3 times.
He had an iron chin, amazing ****in' resiliency, and knew how to NOT BE knocked out. He was a very, very smart fighter. NO ONE was as cool and composed...even cold...as Monzon. He did nothing spectacular...he just won, that's all, he just won. There's a chance that he could have put on the extra pounds and made a decent sized lightheavyweight. He was in a different league altogether than Chris Finnegan, who gave Foster a very tough fight...so who knows, maybe an upset vs Foster was possible...I don't know. Monzon certainly was the best middleweight of all time, IMO.

You may be mistaken there...Monzon wasn't an average fighter...or an average middleweight champion. I'm not necessarily saying that he would have won, but who knows how he would have filled out into a lightheavy...I'm not sure he would have because as I've said, some fighters were ideally built for as certain weight...like Hagler as well, and Foster too for that matter. I do know that if he had made the transition successfully to 175, he would have given Foster a much better battle than Chris Finnegan.

To be honest, i'd rather actually see if Monzon could beat someone like Finnegan(or whatever other good contender you want to name) at 175 before throwing him with Foster.

Monzon's style and strengths weren't suited to moving up imo, he was absolutely in his element when he had the size\range advantage against his foes. His defensive style of leaning straight back and swaying away from punches, effective at middleweight, would invite horrific brutality against Foster.

It's very hard to say without ever seeing Monzon at light heavy. However Foster was a beast at that weight and I wouldn't be surprised if he stopped anyone there. Even a guy as tough and composed as Monzon. He'd be giving up his size advantages against a terribly destructive light heavyweight. I think Foster is generally a bit faster than Monzon. Monzon's thing is his sense of timing and anticipation, which is exceptional imo. I would definitely pick Foster. Not a fair matchup really, taking a career middle and putting him up against an ATG light heavy killer like Bullet Bob Seger, I mean Foster.

Monzon never proved a thing at lightheavy. There's no way to endorse any chance for him here.

    This.

There's no way of endorsing much for him in terms of beating a solid light-heavy contender, let alone a man-killing champ like Foster.

    Foster by KO.

    Monzon is the greater fighter.

    Irrefutable.
