Only issue with the package deal is that the rights holders the the May 2nd event would want a huge cut of that package- effectively devaluing the 25th April card's revenue. Hearn has got some issues to sort out if Sky secure the rights to the fight.
Completely agree, every time Eddie got interviewed regarding Degale vs Dirrell he was saying its close, im now thinking maybe he wont come over to England, cant see how they can afford to bring him and Gradovich over without PPV
The rights for this fight in the UK are expected to go for six million quid plus which only really leaves Boxnation, BT and Sky in the running.
£6m rules out boxnation - they don't have the promotional muscle for a fight like this to make it worthwhile (would need to quintuple their subscriber base to make that worthwhile), BT are an interesting player in this, if a PL game between hull and Stoke in two years time will effectively cost £8m then this is pocket change regardless of the time, provided it includes replays
This forum is a weird place. Boxing fans getting all heated over TV channels. We have fans of certain TV channels now- defending or berating them. Crazy.
This. I really don't get some posters obsession with it, I don't care what channel it's on as long as it's on one of them.
I don't see how BN couldn't deliver the fight in exactly the same way as sky would tbh? Obviously existing customers already get the fight and will hopefully reward the channel by staying with them long term plus BN have a PPV option on all formats and it be would be no different ordering through them as it wound be on SBO... Yes they don't have a Sky sports news type equivalent but for a fight this size this it is almost irrelevant..non boxing fans at my work are already taking about the fight and if need be frank could easily throw together a York hall type card on freeview with Buglioni etc before encrypting.. Also it seems they have an agreement with Talksport to do radio coverage/advertising. I think it's irrelevant though as Sky will get it Sadly.
Agree mate with these Boxnation diehards always defending the domestic dross. It is doomed and the quicker it disappears the better.
Rumours are if BN get it then subscribers will have to pay extra (they do have PPV functionality anyway) - they've stated in their IPO docs that the most subscribers they ever had was 250k for haye chisora they'd have to bear double that number to make it viable economically if the £6m starting point is to be believed, personally hoping BT get it as it almost certainly won't be PPV so included in my subs and no halling and watt
There are too many people out there now who would charge Fish for smelling their shyte now so it will ruin Boxnation anyway. The casual sporting viewers are unlikely to be forking out in huge numbers for what is a fight 6 years too late and starting at 4am on a Sun morning. They can stick their PPVs up their ars-es regardless of channel. Casino for me after nightclub.
