    :rofl
That was ridiculous. Lewis' trunks were higher than Steve Smoger pants:lol:

That was however the referee mistake and Holyfield's team, too. They should've insisted on it but they didn't.

Lennox is known to use every possible advantage to get a win, can't blame him on it.

I thought that made a mockery of the contest, to be honest. You just have to ignore it, block it out because it's so extreme.
It was bizarre, like the referee and both fighters were making up new rules or standards. Lewis's entire body up to the chest was covered.
I'm guessing Holyfield was too lazy to even care or notice. Pathetic really.

No, I'm not disagreeing that Lewis should be favoured.
I disagree that the fight "isn't even fair."
I believe Charles had a good style to take on the big men.

I believed Roy Jones would have been a legit opponent for Lewis in 2003, might have posed a puzzle or two.
I believe Chris Byrd was a leading contender and a legit opponent, and he might have made Lewis look bad.
Charles was better than both of them.

You are right this s**t about," these trunks are a little high ,I'm calling any punches here good", is bull s**t!
The fighters should be made to wear standardized protectors. The belt line was always supposed to be." an imaginary line drawn across the hip bones", nowadays its often up to their chests!

The judges called it a draw.
    They got that wrong.
Based on Lewis's trunks, it should have been recorded as "NO CONTEST".

He is about top 5 in number of ranked opponents beat. Definitely top 5 if you also factor in win-loss ratio (as you should).

He has one of the very best post prime wins of any HW. Possibly only topped by Ali-Foreman. Actually one of the best wins at HW, period.

He was only extended in three of his wins (Bruno, Mercer and Vitaly) during his time at the top level.

He is one of only two HW champions who beat everyone he faced. Quite a few of them come by way of dominating KO's.

How is it "weird" to have someone like this in your top 5?

What win are you referring to ?

And beaten by McCall and Rahman.
What do you mean "extended" ?
Didn't Holyfield extend him too ?

I think it's three. Tunney, Johansson, Lewis ?

I didn't mean it's weird to have him in the top 10, particularly.
It's weird for people to insist he's a "definite lock" and only haters would have him lower.

You used the word "weird" for him being outside the top 10. I think he's somewhere in the 7-13 range, probably.

    Vitaly, of course.

No, he was never behind, never hurt and never close to losing (except on corrupt judges' cards) in either fight.

And Rocky, actually. My bad. At least top 5 in that aspect, as well. :) And of the others, only Rocky faced nearly as many (but still fewer) ranked contenders.

Well, if someone has him outside the top 10, I'd say the possibility for bias is quite large. But I wouldn't say he's a lock for top 5.

I don't think Jones would have been a fair fight either and would have lasted only as long as Jones could avoid being hit, literally. Byrd probably would have looked a lot like the Klitschko fight, but Byrd happily took 30, 35lbs more than Charles to the ring. That weight is needed and Byrd proved he had both the style and the frame to carry it.

Perhaps the fight would have been fair, but I wouldn't enjoy seeing an opponent outweighed by 45lbs in the frame of a light-heavy beaten up by Lewis. It wouldn't be nice to see, I don't think.

You might be overrating it a bit. Not the most convincing performance. I think there's a lot of "past prime wins" at HW to compete with that.
Lewis was arguably "past prime" versus Rahman 2 and Tyson as well, so you might have meant those.

    The second fight was close.
He did a lot better than Bruno.
Vitali lasted only 6 rounds before his face fell off.
Some people are calling Mercer winner of only 3 rounds.
Holyfield extended Lewis just as much, imo.

    Yeah, how'd I forget that ?

It's all a bit subjective. There's not enough space in the top 10 for everyone.

Charles could come in at 205 or 210 if you reckon that would make him as good as Chris Byrd.

I reckon that there is no proof that he would be affective at that weight. It might slow him or tire him. He's better than Chris Byrd by a mile, but that doesn't mean that he's better than Chris Byrd at finding his way around the ring against super-heavies.

Byrd was carrying dead weight, he never looked lean and ripped like Charles. If it made him better - and Spinks, and Moorer - then there's no reason to say Charles wouldn't utilize it.
Personally I don't think it helps that much at all, unless it's proper muscle.
Yes, you can dismiss Charles's chances. But I believe he had the intelligence and ability to do whatever Spinks or Byrd did, and perhaps emulate Holyfield (who admittedly WAS a genuine muscular 215 pounder).

Obviously it's a HUGE ASK to expect him to win.

I disagree. Until a fighter has proven he can motor at a given weight I don't think he should get a pass. Twenty-five pounds is an enormous amount of weight to add to a fighter and presume he would produce.

I'll add a weight-class at a push (Golovkin to do ok 8lbs north or whatever) while providing the benefit of the doubt, but 20-30lbs on an elite athlete is signficant.

Byrd is probably the most successful guy up at heavy who inhabited Charles's weightclass and frame (though Byrd is taller) in the superheavy era and he deliberately added bulk because he felt he needed it. Steve Cunnigham is currently setting forth on an experiment closer to your "muscle only" model, and it's going pretty badly, though I'm intrested to see what he does next (he boxes generally around 205 and doesn't carry excess weight).

It's not a closed shop yet, but boxing currently says you need the weight up there.

Well what Spinks did was beat a 220lb champ who was, as you put it in another thread, fading. What Byrd did was lose most rounds to the elite superheavies he faced and get brutally stopped on one occasion. I think i'd back Charles to manage that at 188lbs, that's a fair target. He might even do better. But I don't think Lewis looming over Charles in the ring would be a pleasant sight, and I think what Lewis would do to him would be less so!

    Yes, bottom line.

In fairness, you were only saying that Charles should add 10-15lbs. He might be ok doing that in fairness, for some reason I thought you were saying he should bulk up to Byrd's heavier showings.

Tell you what though, I would want to see Charles box at 210 before I would like to say just the same - more than that, so would he.
