Well Beaten? Julian Jackson had KOed both Herol Graham and Terry Norris before he fought G-Man!

I'd take McClellan in this, his height, length, and power is too much for Golovkin!

I was a huge McClellan fan and think highly of his abilities. G-Man had tougher fights against serious competition much tougher than GGG to this point. G-Man definitely proved his ruggedness against some tough competition it's a tragedy what happened to him. G-Man had a hell of an amateur pedigree but not as good as GGG. the G-man had he not had the injury and continued would have been an ATG IMHO.

However I think that GGG stands shoulder to shoulder with middleweights in any generation skill, power wise. I cannot honestly say he can win a true dogfight against a world class skilled and powerful fighter because he has ovcerwhelmed his competition so thoroughly that the division looks weak. RJJ did the same thing, he made legit ATG fighters look average to the the point no one could see his greatness GGG is in the same boat.

GGG great skill, power and chin? vs the G-Man's skill, power, chin and tenacity would be an all time matchup no matter who wins the fans are the biggest winner. Killer vs Killer I lean towards the G-man but could be persuaded if GGG fights fights competition of the caliber the G-man fought.

I'm scratching my head at your praise of MCClellan's comp. he beat Jackson and lost to Benn. That's really it. Now Jackson was better than anyone GGG has beaten, but it's not like Jackson was as good as Nunn, Toney, Hopkins, Jones, McCallum, etc. GGG actually has the better wins outside of the Jackson fights.

During the G-mans era the overall competition was better and true he did not beat any of those listed it does not take away from where he was at. He KO'd Mugabi, Jackson and was beating the **** out of Nigel Benn until his brain injury started creeping up on him. He started to fade prior to the KO and the subsequent brain injury that followed that put him in the hospital. I always thought highly of Benn any lesser of a fighter would have been stopped early.

I am a fan of GGG I would like to see him in with a fighter with the the dangerous power of Mugabi, Jackson or Benn and watch him grit it out before I will place him over a Emmanuel Steward fighter.

Tough fight to call but GGG could definitely win this. G-Man liked to fire with space and rarely threw uppercuts, triple G would be on top of him much the way Benn was after he weathered the early storm. Only difference was Benn was hitting him with bombs that started in a different time zone and he still couldn't get out of the way. GGG's clinical precision and pressure fighting might have G-man backing up and if that happens it's over.
Still I want to see GGG defeat one top 3 guy before I am comfortable picking him.

mugabi was shot and McClellan looked like a robot against Benn and lost most of the rounds.

If he fights Andy Lee, he'll be in with a hard hitting Steward trained fighter.

The first few rounds McClellan was beating the **** out of Benn and started to fade, again we now know given is current condition why he was fading.

Andy Lee is no McClellan in power, skill or aggressiveness but he will be a far more dangerous opponent that Murray was.

Well, we don't really know. There's no way to tell if he started losing due to a brain injury or due to Benn simply beating him. It is clear that Benn clubbed him in the back of the head plenty of times.

Other than the injury, that fight just reinforces what was already known about McClellan: tough guy with great power but kind of mechanical and vulnerable to being outboxed.

McClellan was a truly awesome puncher, well schooled boxer, and hit harder with a single shot than Golovkin, but he wasn't as well rounded as 'GGG'. Benn fouled McClellan throughout their fight because Gerald looked lost on the inside.

McClellan vs Jackson 1 was about even before the G-man's power came through in the 5th. There's no denying that he was liable to fade in fights, understandable after the way he used to open up so early. Against Golovkin he'd be in with a 160 pounder who throws 80-90 punches in rounds 8, 9 and 10.

His stand out wins were Jackson who had been easily beaten in 2 rounds by MM, and Mugabi who had been stopped by Hagler, Thomas, and Norris.

For fvcks sake, yet more revisionist garbage on ESB, there is a surprise. McClellan continually hit Benn on the back of the head. Didn't the ref even warn him about it? And he wasn't beating the sh it out of Benn, he was up on 2 cards and level on another. I'll say again Benn did NOT have a sh it chin, but it was NOTHING like say Hagler's or Eubank's. If McClellan was that good Nigel wouldn't have got up in the 8th.

Sad to say but true, it was Benn's punches that did the damage.

GMAN had one of the best chins ever
And hit p4p as anyone in history

I don't see how a come forward type like GGG could last the early onslaught

Maybe of he ever shows how good his defense is on the back foot

McClellan was a bigger one punch banger, I think, an exciting fighter and looked more dynamic, more speed about him, but he was always more dangerous in the first 5 or 6 six rounds. If he's gonna win, it's earlier on, otherwise GGG can get him. Gennady conserves his energy and has a good chin. Gerald lost two points decisions on the way up. He wasn't unbeaten before Benn. That clash was at super middle, so a weight up. A shame about the G Man.
