Oh god.... some people here are going way way overboard. Does Macca have one of the best chins in the world then?:lol: He took at least 2 flush shots from Haye and didn't even blink. Then, the third one (I think it was #3) hurt him and Haye finished him with a series of shots. And even then Macca got up... yes, he was wobbly and in no condition to continue, but he did get up. Sorry, but the hardest hitting p4p would not need so many flush punches to KO Macca :D

3 is now so many punches. All of which Macca saw. one of which had him out on his feet.

Dont tell me I need to explain any more than he saw the punch that hurt him.

To ask, how many flush right hands did Pavlik hit Taylor with or Hearns before he knocked Duran the **** out?

Also the flush shots Haye landed before the main one, were not on the chin. They landed clean but on the cheek. The moment he tagged the chin and Mac was done.

Regardless, Cunningham cannot take those shots for several rounds and does not pose any of the offensive threat that Mac did.

i think the cat was very underated , he was a first rate pro, could box, excellent power , always in top condition and a wbo champ, anyone who beats eubank twice must be decent.

Here's a truncated version of the fight for anyone interested in seeing Thompson completely out toughing, and out smarting Haye

Haye wasn't a novice in terms of his skill level. He's pretty much the same fighter now in terms of his style. The problem was his poor strategy and conditioning. He didn't take his time and he paid for it.

that's what i mean by novice, he clearly wasn't conditioned properly and was expecting an early night. he also wasn't experienced enough to clinch and cover up when in trouble.

I love the way you pretend to offer compliments to Haye when in fact this thread is a Haye bashing thread.

He didn't outsmart Haye, he was a fighter with a great ability to soak up real punishment and come back. Haye was someone who was doing zero road work, and going out partying constantly. He was not dedicated to training and relied upon his power alone.

He had never been past 4 rounds in his entire career and came out looking to bomb Thompson out. He totally gassed and somehow Thompson hung in there.

There was no smarts just great toughness and resilience from Thompson and poor preparation from Haye.

It was the best thing that could have happened to him, as he would only have been exposed later on and on a bigger stage if he had not had to go back to the drawing board and realise that natural speed and power alone are not enough at the highest level.

Haye was a rookie and to try and insinuate that this fight has any bearing on what he is like as a fighter now is pretty stupid. Put it this way, at the same stage of his career as when Haye stepped in with Thompson (a world champion coming off a fantastic KO win over Rothmann), your man Cunningham fought Caseny Truesdale who has a record of 7-41-2 and who has been KO'd 37 times in his career.

I don't know what you're talking about, Haye is one of my favorite fighters

Carl Thompson has always been able to take punishment. He let the young man get tired, took him into to deep waters, then drowned him. If you're telling me that Haye partied, didn't train properly, and simply relied on his power against a tough veteran; well that tells me he wasn't very smart in his preparation or in his fight plan. Thompsom was much smarter in his preparation and his fight plan.

Haye was gassed in the second round. There's no excuse for a 20 something year old fighter getting tired in the 2nd round of his 12th fight. Somehow Thompson hung in there? Thomspon is a tough fighter. Sure, he had been blasted out there pretty early a few times, but you can never assume that a fighter like that is going to just lay down.

Yup, Haye's preparation and fight plan were pretty poor. Thompson was well prepared and stayed composed even after eating several big shots.

The best thing for Haye would've been for him to be prepared and focused from the beginning. Haye was more talented than Thompson even at this stage of his career. However, his lack of focus, dedication and punch resistence cost him. Had he been focused and dedicated from the beginning and won that fight his career might have been even further along than it is now.

No it isn't. Haye still has stamina issues, and he still has chin issues. He still has a great jab, quick straight right, great uppercut and wicked left hook to the body just like he showed in the Thompson fight. The difference is that Haye is more apt to take his time now(there are other slight differences as well).

How original, let's bring up Cunningham. Cunningham didn't even start boxing until he was 20 and in the Navy serving his country. Haye started boxing when he was 10, and had an extensive amateur background. So it's pretty ridiculous to compare the two after 12 fights considering how much longer Haye had been involved in the sport. Cunningham has always been focused and dedicated. He's had to work hard for everthing he's received, and has never taken anything for granted. If Haye had Cunningham's work ethic, he wouldn't be playing second fiddle behind the likes of Ricky Hatton in the U.K.

"outsmarting" = letting another man land many big, clean punches on your face and head in hopes that he eventually gets tired? :think

This version was a riddle even for Wlad to figure out.. Anone who thinks this would be an easy fight for Haye is seriously underselling Thompsons abilities while overrating Hayes.
