Tony Thornton had never gone down and fought everyone. Jones had him completely flat in the second.

JJ and Bob Foster are in the stratospheres of great punchers...with very few others.

RJJ had advantages that few fighters in history had in his prime speed, reflexes, accuracy and power but straight power belongs to Jackson he had some of the strongest tendons and hardest fists in boxing.

If only he had a stellar chin to go with all that.

I said "stellar" not a "not bad chin". A stellar chin would have served him better vs McCallum and McClellan.

If his chin was made from Titanium, it wouldn't of helped him taking Gerald's punches.

In January 1997 I was in Las Vegas ( Treasure Island hotel ) for 2 weeks, and as I'm not one for slot machines I took myself off to Johnny Tocco's gym every daytime. The guys there were very friendly, and we got talking boxing and my involvement with the ama game, including helping out with the training, matchmaking, and officiating. The upshot was the second week they asked me if I wanted to take the pads with a pro. Like a fool I jumped at the chance, and in gets The Hawk. It was all fun and they were laughing at the Limey, and JJ was told to go easy on " our guest " I lasted less than a round, and I kid you not when I say, for 2 days I struggled to use a knife and fork, and it was impossible for me to lift a pint of beer for more than that.

My shoulders felt like they were dislocated, and the tingling went right down both arms to my fingers, AND HE HELD BACK, on his punches.

I dread to think what it must have been like to get hit on the chin by the guy.

Then a pinch more of ring generalship and defensive acumen might have helped him some.

Jones's record finds several fighters never stopped in their careers brutally taken out with single shots by him. Thornton is a great example, but Montell Griffin and Virgil Hill simply didn't get stopped, Jones took them both out with one shot from either hand. Jones was as good as it got at his very best.

    Ha ha, great stuff!:good
Less than a round! That's bad-ass from JJ. I do think people seem to forget sometimes that these guys are really on another level, not just at boxing but all pro sports.
Jackson was in an elite 0.1% of pro boxers who are generally in an elite 0.1% of their own. Truly 1-in-a-million natural talent.

The thing about many punchers is that they still have to hurt their opponent before they knock them out. Julian Jackson was different from that though, and there have been few others like him. One second him and his opponent were in the ring and it appeared as though they were in the fight. One punch later, just one single punch and they had fallen comatose and had to be woken up with smelling salts.

You are 1000 % correct, and it was an experience I'll never forget, if a bit painful. Haha:good

Not just of his era. Jackson is probably the hardest puncher ever to be shown on video.

RJJ was an awesome body puncher, remember when he took out Wolfe who went distance with Toney in the very first round or very first minute even with one left hook to the body, as chief supporting act to Barkley-Toney..
