You just named three men who would knock Seldon out. And I fully realize that Seldon could fight a little.
Damn if Rahman is that bad what does that make Corrie Sanders who was KTFO BY Rahman:huh, ... Most of the guy's I see on here agree Rahman IS NOT the worst heavyweight champion in history.atsch
I really don't see it here. Briggs won the lineal title, then later came back and won an alphabet title. Sure he has fought awful opposition, but he has put it all on the line against guys like Lewis and Klitschko. Wilder has a lot of capacity to improve his standing. I expected Stiverne to hand him his head, but I was wrong, so lets see what he can do. As for Weaver, he was one of the better heavyweights of that era. Not glamorous, but got the results.
The same Briggs who as an old man, was still one of the few to take Vitally Klitschko the distance, where the ranked contenders were failing? The same who knocked out Sergei Lyakovich, when many thought he was the next big thing, and accused Wlad of ducking him? Briggs was not great, but he was certainly something!
I never said hes the worst ever, i did mention in a previous post that Seldon would beat the **** out of Leon Spinks.
But Briggs also was beaten in his prime by 49 y.o. George Foreman and schooled by Botha (98-91 Botha). In both cases his opponents were blatantly robbed
You'd think that his opponents would have cottoned onto this amazing tactic by now.... If that's the key to victory then the Yanks should send Brock Lesnar over to Germany, he'd man handle Wlad like a child...
Briggs beat Liakhovich by 1 second in a fight he was very inactive in. His only other proper win was over Foreman* and then the draw with Botha*. Yes, both with asterisks. Seldon faced better comp with a win over old Tucker (who most likely beat Briggs)...and Seldon did turn Joe Hipp's face into hamburger! It's close, really close. At least Briggs had the look of a heavyweight champion. But in my opinion Briggs was shlte.
Not sure if getting iced in a round by a rusty Tyson and Rid**** Bowe constitutes better competition than giving Lewis and Vitali tough fights.
It comes down to results: He beats Foreman for the lineal title (disputed). He looses to Lewis, but decks him. He is fed to Lyakovich as an old man, but walks away with the title. He is fed to Vitally as a shell, but still lasts better than most ranked contenders of the era. Was there perhaps something going on there?
Foreman was pretty ancient and inactive. He did not deck Lewis. He got pummeled. He did beat Lyakovich. He pretty much lost every minute of every round v.s. Old Vitali but did show heart in lasting the distance .. Doesn't Briggs suffer from asthma ?
