    Strict rules with this thread. When these type of threads have been done in the past people give more to the question being asked. Example: "Who are your top 5 fighters of all-time" then some follow up awnsers will have 5 fighters placed then honourable mentions or others will give a top 10. "who in your opinion is the greatest of all-time" again the awnser is given but other fighters are also mentioned. In this thread please provide one awnser to each question below.

    1- Ali. Boring but true. Some of his efforts almost bring me to tears.

    2-Ray Robinson. Again, boring but true. Excelled at a time when boxing's technique had evolved.

    3- Hard to beat Foreman vs. Lyle.

    4- James Toney. Roids or no roids, his resume at heavy is far better than Jones'.

    5- John Mugabi. What did he do besides lose to Hagler?

    6- Pernell Whitaker. Combines defensive moves with the best defense is a good offense strategy. Offense? Yes. He worked off a very good jab, underated body attack, and a fairly high work rate. You have to hit your opponent to score points.

    7- J C Chavez. No one did/does it better. He beat you up with both hands, upstairs and down.

    8- De la Hoya vs. Sturm. I have never felt so bad for someone. You could really see what was at work. The Hopkins fight had to be made I guess.

    Chacon-Limon IV, without question

    Perhaps Tiger Flowers; rarely a mention of him, even here.


    5. The most overrated fighter of all-time?

    Jack Dempsey


    6. The greatest defensive fighter of all-time?

    Best I saw extensively was Whitaker. Haven't seen enough of Pep.


    7. The greatest offensive fighter of all-time?

    Joe Louis - Superb mix of blinding speed and crushing power.


    8. The worst decision in boxing history?

    Gomez-Lockridge was probably the worst I saw. Good luck beating a Puerto Rican in Puerto Rico if you don't plan to knock him out.

    1. Your favourite fighter in boxing history?

    Roberto Duran. When I first layed eyes on him I thought he was untidy and crude. Once I began reading about him it captivated me like no other fighter has done since. I was obviously missing something. His defense was probably the most underrated aspect of his game, as was his boxing ability. Fierce and fiery, but smartness to go with it.

    2. Who in your opinion was the greatest fighter of all-time?

    Sugar Ray Robinson. As good as unbeatable as a welterweight and he won the middleweight title 5 times. His resume ranks up there with any other great fighter in history. His chin was solid and he could box at long range or up close. Having over 200 professional fights and to achieve what he done in the game was awesome.

    3. The greatest fight you ever seen in boxing history?

    Corrales v Castilio I. Brutality from start to finish. The ending was like something out of of a Rocky movie.

    4. The most underrated fighter of all-time?

    Lennox Lewis. He defeated every opponent who stepped into the ring with him. I consider him a definite top 5 heavyweight of all-time. His skills weren't too bad either. When he was focused and sensed danger he more often than not produced the goods.


    5. The most overrated fighter of all-time?

    Joe Frazier. His longevity was brief and his resume wasn't exactly great. IMO he lives off his 1971 victory over Muhammad Ali. A great heavyweight, but just not as great as others tend to think IMO.


    6. The greatest defensive fighter of all-time?

    Pernell Whitaker. He could be unorthodox one moment; pulling back with his hands down showboating, then switch to being orthodox and technically sound; pulling back against the ropes with both hands up to block punches (covering up) and tucking his left hand to his chin for a split second when sliding out of range to avoid a straight right hand from his opponent. His head and upperbody movement was extremely good as well. His defense inside was also effective. Watch his fight with Chavez and you'll see a lot of incoming offense hit arms and elbows.

    7. The greatest offensive fighter of all-time?

    Need to think about this one. I have a few candidates in mind.


    8. The worst decision in boxing history?

    Whitaker v Ramirez I.

    Good thread, especially if posters stick to the guidelines.

    Favorite fighter- Jack Dempsey, his style mixed with the era he fought in make him my favorite.

    Greatest fighter-Sugar Ray Robinson, a bit cliched but true

    Greatest fight-Castillo vs Coralles, so many to choose from but I'll go with this.

    Most under-rated fighter-Azumah Nelson, I don't know if he would be under-rated or more under-appreciated but he doesn't seem to get a lot of attention.

    Most over-rated fighter-Jack Johnson, the resume just doesn't back up the extremely high ratings he gets.

    Best defensive fighter-Pernell Whitaker, just watch the tapes.

    Best offensive fighter-Joe Louis, just watch the tapes.

    Worst decision-Lewis-Holyfield 1, there might be others out there but this one is sticking out at the moment.

    Good stuff guys. Really good reading these replies. It gets people thinking a bit more as it narrows the awnsers down and gets the brain ticking into overtime. People might want to give three or four possibles for each question, but can only give one.

    Quick reminder to people who haven't posted: One awnser for each question. A reasoned follow up awnser to each question can also be provided if you wish.

    Mike Tyson - During his hey day, he embodied what everyone wanted in a HW Champion. He turned me into boxing.

    2. Who in your opinion was the greatest fighter of all-time?
    Sugar Ray Robinson, its such a cliche but is nonetheless true.

    3. The greatest fight you ever seen in boxing history?
    Corrales-Castillo I....It was breathtaking.

    4. The most underrated fighter of all-time?
    Floyd Patterson

    5. The most overrated fighter of all-time?
    Easily, Jack Dempsey. His negatives are virtually ignored. Too many blemishes on his record that seem to be excused.

    6. The greatest defensive fighter of all-time?
    Pernell Whitaker.

    7. The greatest offensive fighter of all-time?
    Joe Louis- talk about techinically proficient.

    8. The worst decision in boxing history?
    Lewis vs. Holyfield I

    If im forced to choose ill take Sugar Shane Mosley over RJJ.

    Honestly I say Vasquez-Marquez 3.

    Alot of them but one comes straight to mind Mike McCallum.

    5. The most overrated fighter of all-time?

    Larry Holmes and simply because of his resume I dont believe he can be ranked in the top 3 ATG Heavyweights which people always do.

    Pernell Whitaker closely over Willie Pep but theres so many greats theres no bad answer.

    7. The greatest offensive fighter of all-time?

    Prime Ray Leonard so much speed and power,had every punch in the book,beautiful combos and could finish everyone.

    8. The worst decision in boxing history?

    Alot of bad ones out there and the person who said DLH-Sturm should be shot. I gotta go with Whitaker-Ramirez thats one fight where you can watch it and honestly say the "loser" won atleast 10 rounds yet still he doesnt walk away as the winner. ****ing criminal fight I dont even count it on his record just as I consider the Chavez a win.

    Charley Burley. A gentleman, as honest as the day is long (almost) and one of the greatest, most feared fighters who ever lived. Run Sugar, RUN!


    This is a hard one to supply just one answer for because I am really torn at the moment. I'll run with Sam Langford for the moment though.


    Sugar Ray Robinson v Jake LaMotta VI. I've never seen boxing done better than the way Sugar does it in this duel, and LaMotta is an insanely brave and hard-headed dancing parnter. I think this back-foot beating Sugar dishes out here might be unique. "No man can endure this punishment!"


    Holman Williams for me. Think of a great fighter between 147 and 160. It's very possible Williams could have outpointed him.

    I am guessing you mean by the judges? I'm still going to answer, "the decision to cut the length of a fight from 15 rounds to 12 rounds."

    Pretty simple question McGrain. Yes, by the judges. I think everyone will catch onto that question without too many problems. I never asked "worst decision in history by the authorities" If I asked 1000 fans I'd get 999 correct awnsers if you were one of them.
