Frampton is a good fighter and all that but I'm struggling to understand why ITV have chosen him of all fighters to put on terrestial television. He's big in Belfast but I don't see him becoming some household name in England or anything. He's also in an extremely unglamorous division.
ITV didnt choose him per sé. Think Barry offered them the fight and put the money behind it. That's why he made an issue of trying to get ITV on board for future fights in the post fight interview.
Carl Frampton is a television knock-out Carl Framptons IBF World Bantamweight challenge fight proved a knock out with viewers claiming the top spot as most watched programme in Northern Ireland at the weekend. The fight attracted a peak audience of 457,000 viewers and share of 76%. With an average audience of 303,000 and a share of 58% it meant two thirds of viewers in Northern Ireland were tuned in to UTV to watch the local boxer beat opponent Chris Avalos in a fight that lasted just 5 rounds at the Odyssey in Belfast. Michael Wilson, Managing Director at UTV, said: "At a 76% peak audience share the Frampton fight was not only the most watched programme at the weekend but the highest audience share for UTV so far in 2015. The fight was the first time boxing has been brought to viewers on terrestrial television in many years, and judging by the ratings we can see there is a real hunger amongst our viewers for access to this calibre of sport. "We are always looking for opportunities to offer viewers what other stations arent and 2015 has been a great year for sport so far on UTV. Weve secured the ICC Cricket World Cup highlights and now brought viewers this outstanding fight from the world of boxing. "Carl Frampton was fighting on home soil to defend a title that not only means so much to him but to every person here in Northern Ireland who has lent their support to the native boxer, as he has climbed the ladder of success. UTV was privileged to be in a position to be part of bringing that to the heart of viewers homes." Barry McGuigan announced on air after the fight that he hoped ITV would continue to cover The Jackal's fights. Frampton's next fight looks set to be against unbeaten rival Scott Quigg, a fight that is already shaping up to be a blockbuster, multi-million pound showdown, in June. so over 450,000 tuned in to watch frampton fight on UTV in the 6 counties.... huge viewing figures for a minority sport... :good
when did khan do 10m.... frampton fight took place at after 11pm...hardly peak viewing time... around 2 million is not bad... the actual % share of the viewing figures will be equally important:good
Pretty disappointing figure although I'm not sure if the UTV figure is included in the final figure. However a 76% peak share in Northern Ireland is amazing given the sheer amount of channels available nowadays. Bar Sky I can't see Frampton fighting anywhere other than ITV. So if the Quigg fight doesn't come off he'll fight on ITV for the foreseeable future, almost by default.
Blew ButtNation away with only 669 viewers if you include Tyson Fury's goldfish. Great to see big time boxing back on ITV. :happy
