Well he doesn't just train here and fight here, he moved here and has lived here for years and has an application for citizenship pending approval.

So technically youre right, hes not 'american' yet. But it wont be long til his application most likely goes through (if it hasn't already) and he will probably be 'american' in the most official of ways possible.

But yes hes not officially American yet, hes a resident pending citizenship.

So, does it really needed to be pointed out that a fighter that has lived here for years, is a resident, has his citizenship pending, and calls himself American, shouldn't be listed under American fighters until his paperwork is stamped? idk....

Hes kind of a lot of things.

Born in Haiti, emigrated to the USA before moving to Canada in his teens before moving back to the US a decade ago

What ever that makes him is what he is..:D

    :good

Lep's just being a grade-A cunny assuming I have some jingoistic agenda when in reality I could not care less about Stiverne and have vocally criticized him as exemplary of the weak era. He was an even bigger joke of a "world champion" than is Wilder, and he was along with K9 Bundrage and Tavoris Cloud the last vestige of the Don King legacy (incredibly mediocre fighters getting cleverly maneuvered into positions to contend for & hold titles)

I knew Stiverne was trash when I saw a shot Ray Austin box his face off for 8-9 rounds.

I'm not the one that initiated calling him American - just followed BR's lead on that. (and used that basis to claim in fairness, which I stand behind, that Fedosov and Ruiz ought both count since they are both officially relocated here and no longer representing their homelands)

What about Alexis Santos? He fought Martz last year and lost only because he shattered his ankle in the 1st (and still fought on another several minutes in spite of that). He was undefeated before that and generating some buzz. I'd definitely pick him to beat Martz in a rematch and think his ceiling is much higher.

:conf I'm not really looking to niggle and nitpick here. If people think I should drop Stiverne off my list, I'm happy to. It won't exactly be make or break. The list will still be top-loaded with a few decent guys and then start to really suck once you get past the first half-dozen.

I have mad respect & love for you, Eddie - been following you since your ESPN2 days a decade ago - but I can't really pretend your opposition since the Mchunu loss hasn't been straight ass. :yep

I want to see you in with a higher tier so you can show what you do still have at heavyweight. (since Cruiser was obviously a failed experiment, although it was definitely worth giving a shot and I admit to being among those who for years had clamored for you to give it a whirl)

The last time you fought a ranked heavyweight, you actually looked really good. IMO you beat Adamek even with just the one arm but got robbed.

I just don't understand wtf the deal is with Team Fury (you're managed by them now, right? Not just training with them?) holding you back as much as they are.

You deserve better. And I don't mean calling out a wet-behind-the-ears kid like Charles Martin either. :nono No offense, but that's a straight-up canned hunt. The kid's never fought a pure boxer, you'd make absolute mincemeat of him and it would prove nothing and do nothing for you (although it would look a whole lot better on your record than any of the stiffs you've fought in the UK). A couple years' time, let him get seasoned, and that could be a really good match-up. Right now, though, it would be not far off from you pulling a Ponsaklek Wonjongkam and beating up someone in their pro debut. :yep

I've seen a few of your tweets & posts on this subject, and know you're getting paid relatively well and enjoying yourself and get along with Team Fury and everything - but come on, man. You could still be a real player at HW. You just gotta fight real competition.

Well the point of the OP was clearly not to big-up the site, as it was me implicitly gloating about how my top 15 is a great deal superior. :yep

FFS, they have Oquendo, Mansour, and Banks in there who between them have all of two notable victories in the last five years. (Oquendo against my #15/BR's #14 Derric Rossy, and Banks over semi-retired exposed hype-job football crossover Seth Mitchell) :patsch

Gotta say I agree with your list for the most part IB, but Rossy should be a little bit higher.

I hear ya - my instinct was to put him a few spots higher as I think his quality of notable (or really, once you get past my top five, we're talking semi-notable) wins is higher than some of the guys above him - but all those losses do have to count against him. :conf

You can't just pick up that many L's and have it not factor in. Of course, a good showing in defeat can actually not be so bad for one's stock - for instance, holding Glazkov to a hard-fought MD reflects well on Rossy - but losing to a regional guy like Dawejko, getting outpointed wide by Oquendo, and knocked out by A-Force or Sugar Mo - those aren't good looks.

Most people do consider Perez an Irish heavyweight, yes.

He defected to Ireland in 2007 before he turned pro and has AFAIK held legal residence there ever since, and both trains & lives there.

He certainly isn't a Cuban national anymore, now is he?
