Mike Tyson vs Ray Mercer in 1991

Tyson is the superior fighter in every dept. He beats Mercer from pillar to post.

I cant see Mercer doing any better than Ruddock and Ruddock was always the bigger fighter and bigger puncher.

 

This! There's a strange fetish these days for tipping anybody with a good chin and decent punch to out will and stop Tyson late in these fantasy fights. Mercer had a good chin that would have become irrelevant against a guy as explosive, accurate and fast handed as Tyson still was in '91. A horrific beating would ensue as Ray stopped every hook and uppercut with his head.

 

I agree, that and Ray Mercer is a tad bit overrated.

Tyson stopped plenty of guys who'd never been stopped before.

Mercer gets the **** beaten out of him.

Like he did everytime he stepped up, apart from that one time he got lucky against Morrison, a poor mans Tyson.

 

Oh yes, Mike beats Mercer in 1991 as well as 1996.

Mercer sulery isn't Cobb or Wach whose defence were their chins only. He's more skilled with better defence.

So the fight vs Tyson most likely would last whole 12 rounds.

But Tyson wins big this one, in 91 it would be at least 10-2 (or 11-1)

In 1996 it would be closer but Mike takes all the early rounds and wins like 8-4 or 7-5.

 

Mercer was better and tougher/had a better chin than Ruddock, so Tyson probably wins a UD..

1991 WAS Tysons last good year, after that he went to the slammer and we all know how diminished his skills were when he got out:yep..

If Tyson had fought Mercer in 1996, the same Mercer that gave Lennox hell, he would have got an a$$ whupping..

Even the diminished Tyson of 96 has enough to handle the limited Mercer.

 

Similar to Morrison/Mercer except Tyson wouldn't gas out after a few rounds. Also, remember Mercer had his hands full with Bert Cooper. 1991 Tyson was a better version of Cooper. I think Tyson would blow up Mercer's face and force a stoppage late. I don't think he'd floor he ironed chinned Mercer but would beat him up.

 

If you keep saying it you might actually believe it, Mercer would stop Tyson late if he already hadn't decided to turn cannibalistic...

 

Mercer was too inconsistent to pick here, but on his night I think he would give Tyson a really tough fight.

 

Mercer only ever stopped one world class fighter and that was glass chinned Morrison, a poor mans Tyson.

Tyson beats the living **** out of the overrated punchbag Mercer.

 

If the harder punching Lewis can hit Mercer with everything and not get him out of there then Tyson sure as hell won't.

 

How did Holyfield drop Mercer when neither Morrison nor Lewis could?

If Tyson and Lewis couldn't drop Holyfield, how did John Ruiz do it?

 

How did Mercer last the distance against Holyfield and Lewis when Tyson couldn't?? We can all play that game..
