It's an acceptable number considering that it was against Match of the Day. Khan's fights biggest fight on ITV was in the summer when it wasn't competing with football. Latest BARB figures show that Murray v Golovkin did 740,000 on Channel 5, which is a lot more than the 68,000 Rose v Jones managed the week before on Sky.
Just contacted the site and heard that the Goldfish looked very ill when it saw Bradley Skeete's ring entrance and the dowl had to be taken outside. Seemingly the Head Gypsy forgot to put it back in the caravan for the Fury Fight and was eaten by a Romanian intruder at the camp.
I'm no expert but I think the numbers seem ok for a guy who isn't really a household name considering the day/time the fight was broadcast and the things it had to compete with.
A tad disappointing I would suggest. The last time they had a World Championship fight (Froch vs Pascal) at this time the figures were around 6-7 Million I believe.
Fighters on Boxnation seriously lose profile. Outside Northern Ireland, Carl could walk down the UK streets without much fuss. He will now be a household name as word spreads about the fight on ITV.
Remember though, Froch was built up to his fight with Pascal. Frampton just had his debut to the casuals already a belt holder.
Remember as well that viewing figures are down across the board since the 80/90s - due to more channels and other entertainments (net browsing etc) fragmenting the audience. It's easy to get big viewing figures when are are only 3-4 channels. The major soaps (Eastenders & Coronation St) used to get well over 20m viewers, now it's more like 10m.
His fight against Gonzalez Jr had 1.6m viewers (10.5%). I hope ITV aren't put off by these poor ratings, there needs to be more boxing on free-to-air channels.
until ITV put some money in its really irrelevant. are they going to offer a platform to make the big fights for Frampton? or are his team going to keep paying ITV to get him on tv?
