How highly does Calzaghe's ATG ranking increase due to Froch struggling with Kessler?

As we all know Joe Calzaghe beat Kessler easily almost a decade ago. The fight wasn't close at all and wasn't even looked upon as a phenomenal win for Calzaghe at the time. Just another good opponent like Eubank.

Now almost a decade later the young upstart Carl Froch is considered "an ATG" due to just about going 1-1 by the skin of his teeth with a version nearly ten years past his best. This result (going 1-1 with an old shop worn Kessler) is the pinnacle of Carl Froch's career.

Well if Froch just about sc-raping a draw with Kessler made Froch an ATG just how great really was Calzaghe's win over the prime Kessler? Where does this leave Calzaghe in the grand scheme of things?

Hmm....two of the most opposite fighters to compare really. Shame they both come from the UK and overlapped career/opponents otherwise they'd get more credit in their own right.

What I will say though is that Froch has by far and away the more enviable record IMO. Histroy will show this I believe. If you're going to say 'Your best win is against an over the hill fighter' to Froch.....really.....what the fu¢k do you say to 'zaghe??

I actually think a prime benn, Eubank and watson were better then either clazaghe or froch

How? The pinnacle of Froch's career is just about going 1-1 with and old shop worn Kessler and losing every single round while stepping up his one and only time to elite level against Andre Ward. That can't be compared with what Calzaghe achieved.

Yeah, you have your opinion (and that's all it is). Some of the phrasing you use is 'shop-worn' itself on this forum.

Froch, in my opinion, has operated at the same level Calzaghe ever did, more often and in more entertaining fashion. I believe Calzaghe beats Froch in a prime-for-prime scenario but I much prefer Froch as a prize-fighter.

    ATG ranking...? You decide.
