At the end of the year at SMW, and GGG Ko'ed Carl, would it affect Carl's legacy much?

Of course it would affect his legacy. There's no way you could say that Carl is washed up at this point in his career; he's at the peak of his powers. I believe he has proven himself to be an elite fighter but a knockout loss to Golovkin would obviously diminish him. By how much is debatable. I think most people would favour Golovkin in that fight anyway - though perhaps not by KO. In any case, Carl is never going to be considered one of the all-time greats.

Sure, his legacy would be affected, not that this means very much in reality.

The worst thing about it would be that Golovkin is as natural a middle as Carl is a super-middle. Both are comfortable at their weights into their 30's. It's not like GGG would tech and point his way to victory (like Taylor tried to do). If Carl got bullied and stopped by a naturally lighter man, that'd definitely be a stick for detractors to beat him with.
I think Froch wins this fight 8/10 at least anyway......though GGG is an amazing fighter.

It would. Froch is venerated for his chin, a KO loss throws that into the air

The reason Eddie Hearn only mentions American PPV money when Golovkin's name gets mentioned as an opponent for Froch is because a stoppage loss is exactly what Froch would be on the end of. Golovkin is on a completely different level of ability.

you could argue most of frochs opponents have been on a different level of boxing ability to him, but he's still found a way to win.

think GGG needs the fight more than froch, for all the hype and ability GGG has, he's not really got that outstanding win on his CV.

Hope the fight happens though, 50/50 fight for me

    I don't think it would.

GGG is going to go down as being an ATG. Not many have the ***** to get in the ring with him so regardless of the result, Froch would earn plaudits for stepping up to the mark. Would enhance his legacy over fight the likes of Bhop or Chavez imo.

In my eyes a golvokin ko of froch would cement him higher in my esteem anyway. Needing to forget about legacy's. Their great to look back on But when talks of legacy's stop fighters making the best fights we're really needing to stop looking at them so much.

I d fancy froch in that fight to give it a great go tbh and to me it would cement him as a warrior if he took it. Up until a certain point i was behind the warrior talk but i think he's lost it in recent years...and the reason goes back to the legacy. When he was making his record he didnt care about it all so much but now he's got himself a good looking legacy...he's now scared to lose it.

You could understand that thinking...but to me go out and continually push yourself. No good having a great legacy if your scared to lose it/avoiding fights that could elevate you even higher. Calzaghe suffered the same...has a great looking resume...but in reality it actually looks better than he actually was. 46 and 0's some feat. Carls is the same it looks tremendous for the casuals especially but people that actually know what they're looking at know that guys like roy jones junior, hopkins, toney, eubank, benn etc etc were better fighters...more losses or not.

No one really wants to see the hopkins/chavez fights. Carls talking about only getting up for big fights...cant come any bigger than ward or golvokin or someone like that. How much better would carl froch look with either of them two on his record. Elevate a great record to an unbelievable one. He's on a high after george groves he should be pushing on to cement his legacy imo.

It would affect it in that Froch is seen as one tough *******, "made of steel" almost with one hell of a chin.. e.g. no one can nail him to canvas. But in another sense, it would re-iterate the fact that he'll fight anyone anywhere.

I'm a fan of GGG, love watching him fight... but Froch would beat him at SMW should they fight this year.

It would affect it massively - 'Overrated Froch knocked out by a middleweight, who did he ever beat' type of rubbish that r£****s come up with on regular basis.

    It depends....

Say Froch gets stopped in a one sided beatdown then yes for sure it affects his legacy.

However, if its a 10-12 round war then it could potentially enhance his legacy (as carl will would then always be linked back to GGG when GGG fights)

By this I mean if froch were to put GGG down during the fight or have him severely hurt then it would give great credibility to his reputation as a hard as nails ****er who nearly beat GGG (whom I expect to go on and dominate boxing for years)
