    ...against Fury's competition? Fairly well.

Against WK (even now, fading), Povetkin, Takam or anyone decent?

    They would get schooled badly.

I only used the term "oafs" because I have seen it on this site several times.

You know what? Yesterday's Oafs would not be Oafs today. They would look a whole lot better because their timing would match their opposition.

Big guys fighting good smaller guys who hit hard cannot fully extend or follow through for fear of being one timed. Against faster guys much of their potency is reduced as they poke and prod the smaller guy out of range with extended arms using the end of a punch. So I think old time Oafs would be sitting down on their power exercising better technique. They won't be beaten to the draw so it levels things up a bit on a purist boxing level since theres less size advantage against equal giants to fall back on.

I think those old Oaffs fought more often and that counts for a lot in any era. They won't have to chase speedy little dudes anymore, but they won't get to bully everyone either so they will have to adapt. Remember though who they have to adapt against.. two fight a year prospects in their late 30s.

I think the Oafs do rather well, but for a few exceptions. Lewis and the Klit boys would be too good but I think it's a very even playing field against anyone else.

I have never felt that the super heavyweight argument was applied, either particularly consistently or sincerely.

If a world class super heavyweight gets legitimately beaten by a much smaller fighter, then he must be destroyed at all costs, even if it means turning every argument that you hold sacred on its head!

In the end, even Tyson Fury is held up as a modern super heavyweight, in order to further their argument!

He could beat Wlad, and still not be as good as Primo Carnera!

    Choklab,
Do you think that the Oafs would be capable of catching a Lewis or Klitchsko on an off night, in the same way that McCall, Rahman, Byrd, Purity and Brewster did?

Off topic, but could others like Flynn, Choynski and others catch their lightning in a bottle for a one off against those same fighters just like happened to some of todays fighters.

Fury is miles better than Baer or Carnera, eh?

Total # of people outside the UK who might agree with that: 0.0

Even you don't honestly believe that Buddy vs. Tyson would result in anything other than seeing the latter KTFO ice cold, on his back, drooling like a Saint Bernard.

Fury is definitely faster and better on his feet.

However, I feel that when Fury is tested by the division's elite, he will likely be sparked out.

And you thinking Buddy Baer would take out Tyson says all we need to know about your objectivity.

It's tough to say. I think we can assume they wouldn't do as well as they did in their own era, as their advantages in strength and size would be minimilised

To get a title shot Baer would have to establish himself as the best fighter in America for a small period of time, which in essence, probably isn't as easy as it sounds despite the division appearing to be past it's sell by date.

Carnera may become known in Europe, but I think both men would struggle to become legitimate top 10 contenders and would have to carefully cherry pick their way up the ranks
