"Andre Ward is a brilliant fighter, pound-for-pound arguably the best in the world but because of his promotional disputes and inactivity, he really doesn't carry the draw in the US. At all. People said to me Carl is looking for his Vegas fight so why not fight Ward in Vegas? Two reasons – one it is not that big a fight in America. Two – if Carl Froch is going to beat Andre Ward, we want to have as many advantages as possible.

"Carl is very, very difficult to beat in the UK, particularly Nottingham. The atmosphere would be electric and it would be a very, very tough night for Andre Ward. So if we do get this fight in the UK, it is the place it has to be."

This is reminding me of Jones / Hopkins the only diffrence is Froch wants this on his home turf last I checked Carl Didnt fight Ward in Oakland this fight should be on neutral ground ..

One fighter draws 80k to arena, sells hundreds of thousands of PPV.

One fighter draws 3k to arena, splits premium cable license fee.

Some people say the guy who draws fans is delusional thinking he can dictate terms. Must be graduates of the Winky/Ward School of Boxing Business.

The only problem with what you say is the meaning of neutral ground. Anywhere in the US is for you neutral ground while the UK is home advantage... Just typical.

I am neither from the UK or from the US.

I wouldn't mind the 02 areana doesn't have to be in the USA but certainly not Carl's back yard he hasn't earned the right to get that much of a home court advantage

The fight is probably bigger than the 02 Arena to be fair. If Hearn is talking about having the fight in the Nottingham Forrest FC City ground then you are taking about an attendance well in excess of the 20,000 the O2 arena can accommodate.

That is not neutral territory either.

Neutral territory in somebody's country is ridiculous if you ask me.

    Of course he dictates everything

Of course Dre can just continue to fight in obscurity very few would be bothered

He should bend over backwards and accept anything offered by cash cow Carl

While it's clear Ward isn't in the position to go making demands he shouldn't just bend over backwards and take it either.

Fact is Ward won the first fight, which in this situation doesn't mean much as Froch clearly isn't driven to avenge this defeat as some are in fact he's been pretty indifferent, while he's wanted the rematch he hasn't made big fuss chasing it which quite frankly was very clever. But it gives Ward some leverage, that and the fact if they don't come to terms it goes to purse bids where Ward will get 75%.

The problem Ward has is that Froch has shown he doesn't give a damn about titles, he's now bigger than a belt as shown by his vacating the IBF belt. So Ward can't really push this angle as if he forces it to purse bids and Froch vacates, he's ****ed. Froch really is his only option in terms of a PPV fight and the big money he craves.

So neither side wants it to go to purse bids, it's best if the come to terms. This of course means Froch paying Ward a decent amount, I think a 60/40 split would be fair but if Ward is an idiot and holds out for more he's going to be left out in the cold with no options.

    True

I cant see Carl taking this fight for two reasons

    1. It's a fight i doubt he can win
    2. It's almost guaranteed to be boring

Ward and Hopkins while both great had the uncanny ability to turn any fight into an absolute snoozefest no matter how exciting an opponent they faced

Hopkins managed it with Zaggers, Ward managed it with Froch

I see no sense whatsoever in Carl taking it, cause like you say he seems indifferent to the loss anyway

Ward needs to fight overseas sometime instead of cherry pickin at home. I think Froch wins a rematch.

I thought Ward's fight against Dawson was quite entertaining, little clinching with knockdowns. So I wouldn't say every fight is a snoozefest, he just doesn't like to get into a situation where he trades which is understandable.

If Froch vacates it will come down to money. Froch has made it clear he's really only concerned about making money or ticking the few boxes he hasn't already ticked, which of course includes beating Ward in a rematch.

Fact is the fight only makes financial sense in the UK. If Ward holds out for the US it will kill the fight. A fight in the states won't have a 30-40K attendance like in the UK, 10K in the US would be amazing for Ward and a fight in the US would definitely see a drop in PPV buys from the UK due to the time of the fight and there is no hope of any PPV revenue from US tv.

maybe the income from 30K+ sold tickets in the UK is better for both fighters payday than 7-8K in Oakland?
