That was not a good look for NBC or boxing tonight. I bet most people turned it off halfway through the Broner fight when they were literally falling asleep watching it. Terrible matchmaking since everyone knows how limited Molina is. I guess they were hoping for a miracle. Well, that miracle never happened, and what we got was a wretched 12 rounds of boredom that no doubt cost NBC viewership. What they really needed tonight was some guaranteed KO's. I'm not sure how you go about cultivating that, but, maybe a purse increase for whatever fighter gets the actual KO. Maybe give them some kind of incentive to go for the KO. Either way, it was not good tv tonight.
i gotta be honest i actually dont mind the idea of a garcia v rod salka style matchup every so often, i mean fighters back in the day used to take tuneup fights all the time (mostly because they had bigger fights on the horizon)
No one cares about those boxers anyway. If casual fans want to see a good fight with knockouts or action, they have to follow European and Asian fighters. American boxing is dead, there is no entertaining fighter besides Tony Thompson.
Haymon/investors paid for the 2 hour block so NBC is not heavily invested. I honestly thought Molina would pressure the hell out of broner. I can't imagine broner punching harder then Lucas and Molina went to hell with Lucas. On paper, the fight was good, assuming you don't overrate broner.
Look man! The only way your going to get KO is when you start mis matching fighters. Molina is a big tuff light welter and Bronner is still a very good super feather weight. That does not equal to KOs but it does make for a busy fight.
i disagree. i think you need to match the right styles and temperaments between to closely matched fighters in order to get exciting fights. some of the best fights ive ever seen did not end in a ko, they were just hard fought by 2 willing fighters.
Casuals don't want KOs. This is a myth perpetuated by boxing fans. Casuals want EVENTS. PBC is doing the right thing by trying to introduce and market the fighters to the fans instead of feeding them artificial excitement (KOs caused by mismatches) that can't be sustained.
You need exciting fighter matched with exciting fighter. Style make fight. Show would do well to have real blood and gut warrior on there even if limited. Someone like Rex Tso, Koki Eto, Tommy Coyle or Monty Meza-Clay. Not a world better but a fan friendly guy.
Yeah because Tony Thompson is just setting the world on fire. Such BS. Tony Thompson has had some good wins of late but Deontay Wilder??? He's more exciting than Thompson. Keith Thurman too. Biggest Boxing star is still Mayweather by the way. America is doing just fine.
So the Gabe Rosado-Curtis Stevens fight will be boring? The James Kirkland fight is going to be boring? I could go on...
It's still not a good look for NBC no matter what. That first fight is the reason boxing is no longer relevant in mainstream American sports. It's why so many people prefer UFC.
You're wrong. That's exactly what they want. Why the FUARK do you think they were booing all night long??? Because Beyoncé wasn't singing the National Anthem. GTFO
I agree wholeheartedly and to make matters worse that little s*** Broner gets up there and talks about not wanting to fight for the fans on their first time on ****ing network TV in decades.:-( Most of the audiences probably didn't even make it to Thurman Guerrero after that cr*pfest.
