why at the height of Eddie Hearns power are his cards so lame

Typical of Sky pundits not making more of the suspect quitting of Gethin after having Coyle down heavily. Also interesting how they had all of the Campbell Coyle VT's ready to press play on.

 

Very, very dodgy gethin didnt seem to go after him after that heavy knockout and what was coyle on afterwards, he's living off lukes name and will be totally embarrassed if they are to meet in the summer

 

You do realize Matchroom peaked in Boxing in the early 90s, when they helped promote the likes of Benn/EubankII? Without the motor of prime time Saturday Night TV on ITV or the Beeb, all promoters will struggle. Which is a real shame as talent wise, I think British boxing has never been stronger.

These fight nights are getting worse, most of the cards are largely made up of fights that should be taking place in a barn somewhere, not live on sky on a Saturday night.



And the brass neck of miss-matchroom to be pushing some of these 'domestic showdowns' as PPV fights is tantamount to fraud!

the amount of talent at Eddies disposal

the money earnt from selling Wembley out

the talent in British Boxing at the minute

the opportunities available at sky sports

the influence at the IBF

the untaped potential online

what Matchroom and Eddie are offering and have offered since last summer has been awful. I have backed Eddie to the hill and thought he was gonna ignite British boxing once again but hes just rested on his laurels and his business has gone stale.

Matchroom is more than Boxing, and I think they have always struggled to make ends meet in the sport (the odd Wembley sell out or not), but I think Barry and in particular Eddie like the kudos and credibility the sport gives.

Boxing is 90% about building up fighters in gimme matches. It is such a brutal sport that rightly a premium is paid to get top matches, it is the least the fighters deserve. A Saturday on SKY Sports is a showcase of the top talent in the promotion. You are naive if you think you are going to get top quality even match ups, that does not make economic sense in boxing.

Eddie a Hearn is telling sky subscribers that Brian Rose and Tommy bloody Coyle are headliners....simply not good enough.

It wasn't that bad.....first fight very good,impressed with Campbell's skills very dodgy finish to Coyle but then again seen quite a few of those over 40 years of watching boxing!I thought quality wise it was on a similar par to the later BN card.......on a Sat night will watch boxing every time if the alternative is to see Ant and Dec force feed has beens maggots whilst ballroom dancing!!

 

Was a bit sickening to watch. The guy just seemed to take delight in taking punches like a fetish or punishment for past sins. Looked like he had partial brain damage already.

 

The point about Sky giving Hearn total control is the most important in my opinion. Should never have happened and Sky should look to open the contract up as soon as possible. The style of cards that Hearn puts on are the complete opposite to what I would want to see. Elimination fights all the time in the aim to position guys into world title shots they have no chance of winning. British and European fights have been completely neglected. The lightweight division as an example: Mitchell, Coyle, Burns, Campbell, Crolla, Buckland with Flanaghan and Matthews on the other side. These guys should be boxing each other every week and the best moved through to world honours. That way we get the good domestic fights and the guys with realistic chances in competitive meaningful fights at world level. I find that a lot of the competitive fights are down the card area level, presumably because they cost less to put on.

I don't like Hearn at all, but I understand he has to run a business. Saying that I do think there is a complete unwillingness to put his hand in his pocket and make better shows week to week.

 

Look at the bigger picture. Matchroom gives SKY a lot of original coverage. Snooker, Pool and in particular Darts, are important planks in SKY Sports scheduling.

So when it comes to negotiating what Boxing promotion will be showcased on SKY; the promotion that can also offer popular live sports, often during non Football periods, is going to be an attractive option...

 

I completely understand that, obviously the darts is key but Sky hold the cards. They did not have to negotiate that deal and I still think the Hearn's needs Sky more than the other way around.
