What if it becomes "THE" boxing league (Yeah I know that sounds weird). What if the best boxers are in PBC. What if there is one boxing champion per division. What if the best boxers are fighting the best. What if PBC takes over and kills within a couple of years all these useless organizations... WBC, IBF, IBO, WBA, CHI, PEE, POW :tired What if we let go of our "hatred" of Al Haymon. And even if we don't, so what if we don't like him? For example, I'm a hockey fan. I watch the NHL. Doesn't mean I like Gary Bettman, the NHL commissioner. What if the PPV fights are PPV worthy? Isn't this what we always wanted? :bbb
It would be terrific if all of those things happened. Haymon definitely has the best stable of fighters IMO. I think he has over 150 boxers under contract, so he can easily put together some top notch cards for the foreseeable future. I just hope they continue on this trend of the best fighters fighting the best competition possible.
Problem is that it's impossible for them to have ALL the best fighters in their primes under contract, because every good fighter would have to sell their soul to the Haymon pretty early in their careers already to make that possible. So if it becomes a closed league, it wouldn't feature the best vs the best, but in best case scenario the best vs the best in that particular league. While the rest of the world fights for the free for all belts outside of it. Or in the scenario that other orgs will vanish, a lot of boxers wouldn't even have a world level career anymore, because they would be out of sight. In other words bad for boxing if that actually happens, because it would devide the current talentpool into 2 different streams. It's good for the US that boxing is back on General network TV like it is in most of the modern world. But a separate league would make boxing worse overall.
If it shows good competitive match ups then great the only issue is the same issue thats always existed in boxing The best fights will continue not to happen because there are still a lot of top fighters not signed to Haymon So hopefully we shall see more good match ups but if its a closed league then its shows Haymon to be as bad as everyone else Will GGG ever fight a Quillen ?? Doubt it Kovalev v Stevenson ?? We shall see, TV Channel, Promoter, Advisor, all that fraff mean s absoultely zero to me....all I want is good fights Haymon haters and Haymon fanboys are both equally weird
In what world is that the trend? It's the exact opposite of the general trend in boxing and especially Haymon fighters.
At this point I would agree Haymon is lacking fighters in key weight classes to make it work but who knows what will happen. I and others are still trying to figure out how he is going to make money on any of the time buy cards this year. Maybe Haymon knows something we don't?
It wont. Reason being? They don't have enough high profile fighters. Haymon has almost 200 fighters under his belt and I can guarantee you that even the most diehard fan here cant name even half of them off the top of their head. It was a good start and this weeks card should do well as well, but then what? Casuals aren't going to tune in to watch 2 obscure no namers unless they tune in and both fighters are going ***** to the wall in an all action bout.
It can take off if Haymon signs more good boxers and spices things up: allow ring entrances, music, ring girls, announcer.
Broners going to be beaten again once he faces a live body Thurman has started to show the cracks in his game I dont think PBC will take over with these two
The first card was a good start to this trend potentially continuing. The level of competition probably peaked at 2013 (there were some great fights that year,) and obviously took a big step down in 2014 with some baffling title fights being made. But 2015 is already off to a great and refreshing start. The 2 best fighters of the generation are fighting in May, and the initial PBC card was very good. I don't think the Spike show on Friday will be as competitive, but the next NBC show in April should be very good with Garcia taking on Peterson and Quillin taking on Lee. It definitely beats watching Garcia take on guys like Rod Salka. I think Haymon recognizes that if he wants to capture the mainstream audience, he can't put together garbage fights like he did during 2014.
You're right, it's impossible right now for PBC to have all of the best boxers in the world for obvious reasons. But with time, lets say in 10 years or so, if PBC grows beyond what everyone thinks, why would the new upcoming boxers of that time go elsewhere if PBC is where the money is at? I know right now this is just one big utopia, but that's why I made the thread, what if at the end of it all, it works, and we have a boxing league.
