It wouldn't be so bad if Hearn hadn't been banging on about it as if Dirrell coming here was a foregone conclusion. Maybe Haymon didn't like it and decide to show Eddie who's boss.
Froch would vacate unless the fight was in Vegas. I think this news makes the Frampton/Quigg fight more likely as Hearn is desperate to make a PPV.
I was there and don't think many will be going back. The view outside the inner ring was **** even for £100 plus seats. The main event was a bore until the final punch. Boxing is poor in football stadiums.
In terms of making the fight and getting that many he did very well, hardly the shambles that was the excel
Correct but the experience for 95% of the crowd was high ticket prices and a poor view. I was 10 rows back in the bottom tier on half way line and still poor. Eddie thinks he can fill Wembley every summer but the reality is that show probably turned off many fans. The Froch v Groves fight was very poor until the final punch. Watching a TV screen at a live event for 95% of the crowd is pointless and the people will not return.
Hearns obsession with stadium fights and wembley in particular is worrying - froch groves 2 worked as it basically took on a life of its own and was probably the biggest fight in the UK since benn eubank at old Trafford in terms of public interest, brook Khan could do decent numbers at bramall lane or the macron stadium but not wembley unless the undercard is amazing (and I'd guess a large number at wembley just came for the main event so that may not be a massive factor), ditto Campbell v coyle would be stunned if that did 15k, throw in him wanting joshua to fight at vicarage road in a year or so it seems like he's trying too hard to follow the 'build it and they will come mantra'
Anybody could have promoted that. The first fight was a basic domestic fight which thanks to an extra ordinary set of circumstances made the rematch a massive event.
If Haymon was that terrified of Roc nation he could have just cut a deal with Eddie during the negotiation stage. Dirrell is a nobody and holds very little value for Haymon especially in the states - he would not be able to tell Al no if he wanted to send him Over to the UK for the fight. Eddie is a rank amateur when it comes to big time boxing. Mcguigan has got him by the *******s for the Franpton -Quigg fight...Khan is the guvnor in any future negotiations for a Brook fight..Groves would rather hang around for god knows how long to get the other Dirrell for the WBC (no doubt in the US) rather then deal with fast car. The hole situation is a joke but Eddie will find himself in serious bother with sky if he doesn't get things together quick
Exactly offering Dirrell 600-700 thousand pound for a fight is huge amounts, especially when he is no kind of draw anywhere. I do admittedly defend Hearn a lot because I appreciate what he has done and continues to do for British boxing, yes he does some things poorly but I think he does a lot more things correctly compared to other UK promoters. Hearn nor any other promoter is going to bid so much that they will lose money on a fight and if he was to bid that, it would have to be a stand alone PPV in the UK, when quite simply it is not.
