his combination punching is one of if not the best in the sport, ricardo lopez is someone else i think of (suprise suprise they are both trained by nacho)
Although he's not a slick fighter he surely is a very smooth operator. He lets go his combos very smooth and effortlessly yet he sits on his punches at the same time. I like that he doesn't mind getting into exchanges . When I am ****yzing young talent coming up I always compare their style to Marquez . I think he has one of the best boxer/puncher styles I've seen .
The way Ricardo and Juan throw hooks and uppercuts is identical. What I think is most impressive about jmm is his warrior spirit. Seriously this guy seems to be indestructible. We had seen him hurt slightly and stunned and dropped, but in the 4th fight where Manny had him hurt, and he refused to hold and fought back swallowing blood while it also pored over his face.....thing of legends. His warrior spirit is what landed ktfo6, other boxers perhaps would have been panicked and discouraged. But after the hellacious 5th round, jmm kept composure and went for the kill. Its what separates the good boxers from great boxers. His combination punching is a thing of beauty, very text book style and fluid combos. Its going to be a sad day when he hangs them up, but rather see him go while on top then to be defeated by a new prospect.
For me, it's a continuation of the Mexican warrior spirit willing to face anyone, even on their terms, facing the best possible competition, displaying an unbreakable will and grit despite not being the "fajador" or brawler, and using alot of common sense and intelligence in the ring, cuz like mentioned before, Jmm was never the most athletic at any point in his career, but his resilience still took him very far. His combination punching and selection is still the best, too bad he never had the quick feet to be able to corner or catch fighters like Floyd or Bradley who were the only ones to clearly beat him, cuz I think he clearly beat Norwood and John, and those 2 were world class boxers in their day. He was always a step below Finito, whom the Marquez bros copied their styles from, and tho Jmm never had the speed, power, or defense of a prime Finito, he still became an immortal. One of the fiercest counterpunchers ever.
His efficient and most economical way of recycling body protiens, vitamins and minerals. I'm very impressed. :bowdown
