I mean if he was a fighting twice a year and had chosen to fight Willie Monroe in one of those two fights, I would have a problem. But after this fight in May, he'll most likely be back in September and then December(hopefully against Cotto). Guys like Lemiuex, Lee, BJS will be there as well, and a possible match up against Froch is also in the mix for later this year or next year.

I believe one of the things being criticized is his handlers decline to take on a an extremely slick A-level southpaw with decent power feigning that said southpaw isn't deserving despite proven ability on the world stage to take on a moderately slick B-level southpaw with no power who hasn't proven anything on the world stage.

His handlers have never declined facing Lara.

I prefer that fighters fight 3-4 times a year and as long as at least 2 of those fights are against top fighters, then I don't have a problem against it. GGG needs to make up for it later in the year

Well if his intention is to clean out the MW division, he better hurry up.

Let's not pretend like GGG has time on his side. he's 33 already, how much longer does he intend on boxing for?? And he chooses to fight tomato cans like this guy?? Willie Monroe is a joke; it's extremely hard for me to take GGG or his handlers seriously.

What would happen if Pacman or Mayweather took on someone of this low level caliber?? Their "stay busy fights" are always against top 2-3 guys in the division.

I have a hard time calling GGG a P4P stalwart when he's taking on such awful, awful competition. He's not a young guy anymore, so there's no excuses for him not to be fighting top notch guys in the division EVERY SINGLE TIME OUT. That's what the great fighters do, and it doesn't look like he deserves to be categorized into the nomenclature of great fighters just yet.

Guys like Golovkin and Kovalev get taken for granted, fighting more than once a year, all over the place, and calling out big names and getting clearly avoided.

Which he will, provided those top fighters do not avoid him.

Don't compare Golovkin to Kovalev anymore. they're on completely different trajectories at this stage in their careers.

I can guarantee you if Kovalev keeps beating people up, he'll never have a "stay busy" fight against another garbage fighter again.

Kovalev is lucky to be in a division that has top fighters willing to face him despite the massive challenge he presents (Hopkins and Pascal).

Seems nowadays the opinions of opponent selection is solely based on how much one likes the fighter in question. People can't be consistent. I have a hard time liking Golovkin because of his crazed fans who put all logic and consistency behind them when discussing their boy... i.e: "Golovkin is a top 10 Middleweight ever!!!!!"

If Peter Quillin or Miguel Cotto fought Willie Monroe, there would be nearly one hundred threads the next day about how cowardly and unacceptable it was and how they were unacceptably "ducking" Golovkin. It just is what it is...

It's an acceptable fight given Golovkin's activity levels but it's nothing to overly praise like many will and the victory won't mean very much in the grand scheme of the MW division, really. If he's the #1 MW like most think and on the P4P top 10 list like some think, then he better have some impressive scalps on the hood of his car is all.

People whined about Chris John's or Felix Sturm's or Miguel Vazquez's title fight opponents yet praise Golovkin for being a deity when the difference between their title opposition is minimal, relative to the way people speak of them.

    Fight Lara!

He still has at least 5 solid years remaining, if he doesn't suffer a career threatning injury or some other distraction. Fightng 4 times a year can make him fight 20 times in the next 5 years.
