It is hard being a fan of the sport and not at least appreciate the talent he had in the ring.. He put on a show for sure. There was a time when you could have wound me up, but I think I am immune to it now, I have read enough of your posts to have a good idea what you are doing.:rofl Though some of the idiot haters(obviously not you) can p iss me off from time to time. I accepted the fact that he roided a while back.. I hate it, but I guess I have just been a fan too long and he was too much a part of my childhood to dislike him for it. I consider myself to be a pretty honest and level headed Jones fan. My best buddy from Pensacola has met him several times and says he is very nice.. A lot of his mouthing off was for show I think.:good
You're going to have to get your own mate. It's top of the line stuff. It's even stronger than what Rico smokes.
You can't watch him and not appreciate his talent and physical gifts. lol When I say wind up, I don't mean like I literally want to genuinely p*ss anyone off. When I do it with you Roy fans it's done in a more playful way most of the time, not all the time but most of it. I'd say you are a very level headed when it comes to him. Admitting he was a juice lover is the first step along the road to enlightenment, next up all you have to do is accept that his mandible section, or rather his entire baked bean sized head, was forged out of the most brittle known substance found in the entire universe and that he ducked savage punchers like the plague. lol I can believe that. Like I said, he comes across as very down to earth, especially more so as he's matured with age, and I've always found him pretty ease to like.
It must be heroin or crack lol. That was definitely a legitimate KD and Roy did seem a bit hurt by it. Not hurt like badly hurt or anything but it was a hard shot and it buzzed him good. You could hear the thump as it landed. Incidentally, I stumbled across this recent Roy interview the other the day. It's actually from a MMA show. http://www.mmafighting.com/2015/3/3/8143821/the-mma-hour-271-roy-jones-jr
bailey, It's all of the factors together. I haven't. That so called novice was a very good fighter, and you can't just replace Griffin for Kov in your mind. Again, styles make fights. It is my opinion. But all my opinions are based on logic. Go and watch Roy in the 90's, and go and watch Kov, and then come and tell me that Roy couldn't have found him easily. You want to focus on the Del Valle fight, but go and look at the Caparello fight where he's wide open. Roy threw blinding combinations and leaping lead shots. Simply put, Roy could have found Kov much easier than Kov could have found Roy. The evidence is available for me to make that claim. There's never been truer words spoken. What am I making up? It was a good shot by Del Valle, but check out the slow motion shot from the camera angle above the ring. I watched the fight last night for the first time in a while. Roy slipped in the 7th round, and the ref called for a time out to wipe the canvas with a towel. Roy then got knocked down in the 8th, and again you can see his right leg slip from under him. Then in the 9th round, Roy slipped again twice, and the referee then called for another time out to again wipe the canvas with a towel. Jim Lampley mentioned that it was a great shot in the previous round, but Roy also slipped at the same time. Then Harold Lederman commented that the reason the canvas was so wet, was due to the fact that Alton Merkerson had been putting too much water on Roy in between the rounds, which had resulted in excess water dripping off of Roy's shorts. I respect your opinion, and I'm a fan myself. I can't wait for the fight on Saturday. But for me, Roy had a better offense with more variation and speed, and he was hard to hit clean in his mid 20's due to his great reflexes. All things considered, I think Roy would had to have been the favourite had they fought. :good
You've just reminded me, I never replied back to you on that thread where you said a member had mentioned how Oscar Pistorious could have used you as a lawyer. Ha! He was right.
Everyone knows that. Just about any LHW who Roy fought, could have knocked him out IF they'd have landed flush with leverage. But it was easier said than done.
You aren't mistaken, apart from that Del Valle didn't slip. But Roy clearly slipped three times, and the canvas was wiped in the 7th and the 9th by the ref.
It's clear to anyone with a pair of working eyes that it was both a great shot and a slip. The slow motion shot from the camera above the ring confirms that.
