Seems the moment Kovalev wnet back to distance behind the jab and stopped looking for the big R hand, Pascal lost his opening for the CR and exhausted himself missing it.

I wished it woulda gone another 2 rds so I coulda won the over, but just happy to see them both leave the ring on their feet.:think

There was two whole minutes left in the round! Like I said, Pascal was in bad shape and on very unsteady legs and Kovalev was on the rampage. Don't forget that Pascal had taken a pounding by the time the referee waved it off, it wasn't like he was still fresh. Kovalev still looked relatively fresh and he had one thing on his mind and Pascal was in no condition to stop him from achieving it, IMO. I'm glad the referee waved it off because I wouldn't have wanted to see Pascal get badly hurt or KTFO.

Yes, Pascal was still generally aware of his name, that he was somewhere in Canada, and probably at some type of concert.

He even lucked out that Kovalev slipped, He could've been brutality KO'ed. Hell, he can't even stand up straight. :patsch

I think the stoppage was a tiny bit premature but I would not have stopped it myself.

One of the worst stoppages of all time.

Fights should be allowed to go to their natural conclusion. Refs should generally not stop the action until it's CLEARLY over.

Yeah! Forget these guys families and the potential for brain injury, fight to the finish damn it! Let's make the 10 count a 20 too, just to make sure the guy is completely out before the fight is stopped. Muppet.

Can this even be a debate? Pascal could barely stand up.

This is like saying we should not have hospitals or anything of the like, just let whatever happens happen. Next time you have an accident or are sick, don't go to the hospital, just let things come to their natural conclusion.

You have got to be joking!

Watch the finish from the angle where the camera is behind Pascal.

    The man was OUT.

that was an excellent stoppage. at first I thought it was premature but when watching the replay, I saw Pascal's arms and they were all the way down. Sergei is surgical with his shots, ref just GIFTED Pascal with 5 more years of a career in boxing.

Yeah I haven't seen it again yet but I thought that's what I recalled also. The ref jumped in at the perfect moment immediately after seeing Pascal slump. It was actually as perfect a stoppage as could be, as Kovalev looked about to get an absolutely free shot on a defenseless on an already hurt fighter.

I wouldnt have been mad if the ref stopped it in rnd 4 where pascal was completely zombie eyed and was throwing punches zombified out of his mind. he was hurt bad in rounround 8... he looked back after stumbling when he hit the ropes because he thought they shouldnt have been there... if you know a little bit about sports medicine you would know that dude should not fight on, and I wouldnt be surprised if he has some serious brain trauma. TiThis had a bit of the mugamed abdusalemov vs mike perez fight feel to it, where mugamed was fighting back effectively but he was gone and concussed after the 6Th round, look at where he is now.... thank god The ref stopped.
