It wasn't just that his hands dropped. When Kovalev tripped and went down everyone's attention went to Kovalev, but you can see in the replay when Kovalev and the ref are across the ring, over the ref's shoulder Pascal nearly falls down without anyone being near him.

As far as I am concerned it is almost always an early stoppage when a fight is stopped with a fighter on his feet. Stoppages of this type should be a rarity, only when it is clear that someone is unconscious on the ropes, that sort of thing.

This is the way boxing matches USED to be refereed, and I think it is awful that they are still not officiated in this manner.

And in the older days they were allowed to hit them as they got up resulting in many brain injuries and deaths, and in the older, older, days, they fought with spikes or glass fighting to the death as the point. Some rules I agree are nothing more than the sissification of a thing, others are necessary for a thing to be logically allowed to continue, this is one of the others.

Well, at least you understand that boxing has become sissified in quite a few respects. My own view is that early stoppages are the worst example of this. It has ruined boxing, and deprived fans of seeing many classic KOs.

Have you ever seen a fight live where one of the participants dies, or only on replay?

lol, strange he won't answer me, I'm thinking he has only ever heard of it or seen it on replay. It's a totally different thing to see it live and know that the fight kept going for your entertainment, possibly because you were cheering, that you could be seen as part of the reason he is dead, no matter how small that part it will make you a little sick or should.

The ref could have stopped in when Pascal was stumbling around the ring. Pascal was in a corner leaning up against the ropes. The ref gave Pascal a second chance and quickly stopped it when Pascal could not defend himself. Maybe 1 or 2 more punches would have sent him the floor, but why risk his health vs a big time puncher ready to tee off on a defenseless man? The fight was 99.999 percent over.

Good stoppage. Only drunk Canadians who can't tell when a fight is badly out of it disagreed

But in this case it was clear pascal was on his way out, was unable to defend himself properly and had already taken huge punishment throughout the fight...but you'd have rather seen him and other fighters in his position beaten until they were unconscious?...

Each to their own but thank god someone like you isn't in any kind of role within boxings governing bodies.

Good stoppage. Kovalev has already killed an opponent in the ring. This fight was getting to that point.

When I was watching it live, it looked very premature but after seeing the replays yeah, it's legit.

Answer the question. As a boxing "what" for 35 years? Practitioner? fan?

I think 'troll' is the correct answer to that question.
