You're taking way to long to reply, Mr. I'm Terrified of Stepping up to Euro Class. I'll take that as a direct duck. A fear based duck. :deal

I'm going to watch the Kovalev fight again, in HD. :deal

Ok lets do it another way then.

Post Ruiz 10 fights, 6 wins, but only managed to stop 1 Omar fvcking Sheika who had already been stopped twice by Joe ( Calslappy as you like to call him ) and Pemberton.

He couldn't even stop Ajamu, Hanshaw, or the former Welter Trinidad, and as for the retirement over the shot to sh it Lacy.

Would you prefer the 15 before Ruiz?

14 wins Couldn't stop 40 year old McCallum a who spent 12 of his 16 year career at Middleweight and under. Couldn't stop Del Valle. Couldn't stop Reggie Johnson. Couldn't stop Telesco, when 3 other guys did. Couldn't stop Gonzalez, yet Cloud did.

Now I fully accept that in the cases of Del Valle and Johnson no one stopped them, but I doubt if their other opponents have fan boys claiming their guy was some sort of murderous puncher like Jones does.

    :good

It's really quite simple Serge. We KNOW that at 175 Kov is a murderous puncher. The members of the appreciation society you allude to above merely believe Roid was the same.

Unfortunately the statistics just don't back their beliefs up.

Who he promptly got up and put on his ass 3 times and stopped.

Something Jones couldn't do to Del Valle, but in all probability a puncher like Kov could.

Prime Roid Jones was a poxy S / Middle and would last less than a round with Kovalev.

I am not as confident Roy would beat Kovalev after last night.

Don't get me wrong, I think Roy would be able to land some big shots, but I am not so sure they would be enough to keep the Krusher off of him, who proved he can take a big shot and keep coming.

There is something sinister about him, I think he enjoys brutalizing people.

Also I am a bigger fan of both Kovalev and Pascal after last night... What a couple of warriors. They both showed a ton of heart, and as much as I wanted it to continue, I agree with the stoppage.

Why post Ruiz? Because that is clearly after his prime?

None of the above would have seen the final bell with prime Jones, unless of course Jones was content to cruise to a decision, like many times he was.

I believe right before the opening bell of Jones-Calzaghe, Lampley explains Roy's lack of recent knockouts.. You should check it out.

It would certainly make more sense. Lets not forget that Roy wobbled Ruiz.

Anyone that knows anything about Roy knows he had huge respect for McCallum and took it easy on him, and would admit he would have had to fight different to beat prime Mike. As I said above, there were times Roy was content to cruise to a decision, I can remember multiple times throughout his career I felt frustrated that Jones wasn't going for the kill... He didn't always go out there like Kovalev with one goal to remove the other guys head.

Though I do like how you conveniently left out that Roy was the only one to stop Clinton Woods...Who had an iron chin and was tough as nails but was backing up after a couple of rounds and was complete target practice when his corner threw in the towel.

Roy had elite power at LHW, but he didn't always use it.:good

Who's claimed he was a KO artist at LHW?

He could certainly hit though, but as we all know he was content to cruise to a points win, until the chance of knockout presented itself. The only time that he really went out determined to get one, was in the Griffin rematch.

lol Roy was definitely a big puncher but a lot of his shots were more speed power than sheer brute force, although he had some of that too. But Kovalev has freaky heavy hands with tons of brute force behind his shots. If he caught his opponents with flush clean shots the kind of regularity Roy did against many of his it would be really ugly, I mean like ugly like what happened to poor Simakov (RIP).

Agreed, Roy's power was different to Kovalev's who's hands are not as fast but has more thudding power.

Though Roy's power was certainly elite at LHW, and a perfect shot from Roy could cause anyone problems IMO.

Their mindsets were different too, Roy would go out to outpoint someone at times, Kovalev only wants to brutalize people.
