...and told Yvon Michel to contact the WBC in order to set up a unification. Decision was made yesterday (or Saturday night, it's unclear) to pursue a Kovalev fight. They'd like to have the fight in Montreal or Quebec City in the Fall of 2015.

Mohammedi would have to step aside AGAIN, and both the WBC & IBF must be on board.

PR stunt from Haymon or real interest? :think

So would this be on PBC if it did end up happening?

Why would Mohammedi have to step aside again if fight is scheduled for the fall? Kovalev could get him out of the way in June and then be back in October.

« Comme un combat de cette envergure demande un long temps de préparation, on ne veut pas attendre que Kovalev affronte Nadjib Mohammedi. On veut être plus rapide que ça, on veut demander à la WBC de décider d'une date d'appel d'offres. »

As a fight of this magnitude requires a long preparation, we don't want to wait until Kovalev faces Mohammedi. We want to be quicker than that, we want to ask the WBC for a purse bid date.

If they agree to fight in the fall, Kovalev can still fight in June. It's like when Pascal had agreed to fight Kovalev, he had to first beat/NC Bolonti.

They don't want Kovalev to fight Mohammedi, they feel the prep & promo won't be long enough if Kovalev-Stevenson is to take place in Sep/Oct.

    ...:patsch

Here's hoping - I guess I'll believe it when I see it but it does make sense - the clock's running down on Stevenson and the Kovalev fight is about the biggest one out there - if Adonis wants to make the $s in his remaining fights he pretty much needs to face the Krusher if the WBC are serious about enforcing Kovalevs mando status.

You tell that to Haymon & Michel. They don't think so.

I told you guys. Haymon will make his fighters duck and once he gets all of his business worked out, then he'll pursue the fighters the people want.

I can't see Kovalev fighting on PBC though.

Mohammedi would have to be paid to step aside. He is not a gimme. He is a dangerous fight.

They don't get to dictate who Kovalev chooses to or not fight.

True. Who's left for Kovalev to get a payday from other than Stevenson?

They need each other. Compromises will have to be made.

Kovalev wanted to fight in Russia in May of last year but he had 2 cuts in Agnew fight so he sat out until early August and fought Caparello.

He can easily fight Mohammedi in July and schedule Stevenson fight for late November, plenty of time.
