He's proud and tough and he was on his way to getting brutally KO'd or possibly even seriously hurt, and it was only a few seconds away, IMO. The stoppage was very good. All this talk of him deserving a rematch is way overblown. He had a good couple of rounds and caught Kovalev with some big shots but other than that he took a beating. Kovalev took a gigantic risk by going into his backyard and putting all three of his belts on the line. Pascal was gifted a golden opportunity and he was brave and courageous but ultimately he failed. If he wants another shot I think he should go out and earn it.
He was in serious danger of getting seriously hurt. The referee did him a huge favour whether he realizes it or not.
Absolutely.. He got lucky Kovalev slipped too, because I think he was about ready to go to sleep then.
Statements like this are why rules have been adapted to what the know nothings call " sissified " in the hope that more fighters don't end up as delusional punch drunks. A perfect example of a fighter who needs saving from himself.
Kovalev got a bit sloppy in the 5th and the 6th (I think the home crowd cheering Pascal when he caught Kovalev with big shots unsettled him a little and also spurred Pascal on) but he was back in his groove by the 7th and still looking fresh. He was on the rampage when the ref waved it off and Pascal was done by that point and only going to get, at best, KTFO, and at worst, badly hurt or even worse.
Pascal earned my respect with the way he fought that fight. I thought Kovalev would destroy him fairly easily He didn't. It was a close fight & Pascal definitely deserves a rematch if he really wants one. I have been very critical of Canadian officials at times but it my opinion Louis Pabon did an excellent job stopping the fight at exactly the right time Its a pity the 3 clowns that judged the Cunningham-Glazkov weren't as capable . Steve Cunningham was robbed in that fight.
Pascal's post fight comments sort of make me wish the referee had let Kovalev take that fight to it's inevitable and brutal conclusion.
That's because the bad stoppage crowd is a bunch of pussies that never took a hit in their lives, clamouring for "good old days" when fighters ended their careers in parkinsons, or with brain damage undiagnosed due to poor financial conditions of the fighter, like zackman for instance. Notice how he is now ignoring my posts, like the piece of **** couch potato coward that he is, because to him Pascal should be taking more hits, with his guard down, from the hardest hitter in the division, due to some false sense of entitlement. Get in the ring you cowardly mother****ers, take a few hits and after everything goes hazy and you start seeing doubles, your arms are down because you're trying desperately to stay up, and you see, like in slow motion, the punches coming in and hear the distant thud they make, only you can't feel them, as if you're a sideline observer, watching someone else unload on you. Then you would be on your knees, KISSING PABONS FEET AND BEGGING HIM TO STOP THE FIGHT. But you're not in the ring. you're not 1 punch away from having to spend the rest of your life in a chair. you're comfortable on your ****ing couch, lamenting the fall of the "manly sports" and how "wussified the sport has become due to squirmish fans". **** YOU.
True, but that's what ref intervened stoppages are about, protecting fighters from themselves. Some are just too stupid or macho for their own good.
I don't think most of the bad stoppage crowd are clamouring for that at all. I think most of that crowd think Pascal and others could fight on a bit longer without getting permanent damage. But the people in the ring normally agree with the bad stoppage crowd...
At first it does appear to be an early stoppage. However, after looking at it in slow mo, Pascal was staggering like a drunk about to get arrested for DUI. A couple more shots from Kovalev might have done worse than end Pascal's career. Pabon did the right thing IMO. RIP Roman Simikov
