Then again, that makes such a nice capstone to his career (and IMO cancels out the quit job in his previous final match) - why not leave well enough alone? Nah. Ego. Popó just served a full term as Senator & Federal Deputy in his native state of Bahia. He is still very much a public figure in Brazil, involved with charities and making appearances in carnival festivities as recently as last month. I don't think he is hurting financially. I think he probably wants some more of that sweet taste of redemption that beating up Oliveira brought him.
Oh yeah, speaking of that... ^ There were some pictures of Freitas released in mid-February that had a bunch of boxing fans on Twitter alarmed, wondering about his sanity or masculinity with lots of panicky retweets. Basically they were pictures of him boozing it up and enjoying himself while donning women's apparel. The fact is, though, his native city of Salvador has a tradition where that's just what the men do for some reason - dress in drag for a lark. He was just one among hundreds of guys doing the same (and the more ostentatiously and flamboyantly dressed the guy, the prettier the girl attached to his arm ). Well, if memory serves, weren't the details of that original story that he was in fact with a girl (some model that he was cheating on Millie with) and she is the one that dressed him up and took all the photos? :think
His last comeback was badass, giving a beating to an undefeated guy at a weight he never fought at after 5 years away from the ring. But coming back now would be a mistake. Enjoyed watching his career.
