i don't have the same excitement about the ww div i had even last year...yeah, there's some tremendous talent there. a few atg's and some potential future atg, but the talent actually more hollow than i had originally thought. Here is my completley unsolicited assessment of the current state of the division...overall, the most talented in boxing, but somewhat losing some of the luster it had at this time last year. fmj, pac and marquez = on their last go around. will probably all be retired in about a year or two. - thurman= probably the top ww talent outside of the three listed above. looked good beating guerrero, but imo, he's not the sensational talent he looked against diaz and soto-karass...he's good, but he's got a ways to go to replace a guy like floyd. - maidana= would love to see a berto-maidana shootout. i like both guys. maidana was dominated in both floyd fights, but excited a lotta people with his perpetual motion. capable of winning the a version of the ww title again, but won't be the star of the division. - berto= looked absolutely sharp and sensational knocking out lopez...but it's hard not to question his desire and conditioning, especially after back-to-back disappointing losses a few years ago. He's probably the best bet to beat thurman at this point. - khan= jury's still out on this guy. he's fast but very flawed. probably good enough to beat the lower half of the top 10, but not a top echelon guy, IMO. - Guerrero= My dream fight is guerrero-khan. I've always liked guerrero, even though he fights dirty and talks a lotta schit...he's got some skills. takes a helluva shot and likes the give-and-take even though he can box better than most. but he has lost his two biggest fights at ww...doesn't make him bad, but he's not gonna be the star of this weight class. - porter= not impressed with his last win. haven't been impressed with him really since he beat alexander....and given alexander's performances against khan and looking back at alexander's loss to bradley, i'm simply not that impressed with porter overall. - brooks = looked decent winning the title. still a long way from proving himself though...seems like the kind of guy who could go either way. - sadam ali = the abregu win was entertaining, but i'm still not sold on this guy. - Alexander=sucked everytime he moved up in competition....just seems to lack something in his ****nal. good fundamentals but nothing special.
You forgot Bradley. Even after Floyd and Pac retire WW will be one of the most stacked divisions in boxing
Brook, Khan, Thurman are all great talents Bradley is a solid top guy Chaves is also pretty good Sadam Ali seems like he could make waves Same goes for Errol spence
If Danny Garcia moves up, we could have a WW leading class that incudes Thurman, Porter, Garcia. That's not bad. Berto appears to be regaining form, Khan starting to look good. It's still not too shabby.
It's one of the very best in all of boxing... Not much has changed since one year ago. If you were excited then, you still should be now.
There's a lot of guys that'll be campaigning at WW soon like Garcia, Peterson, matthyse and possibly provodnikov. Bradley,JMM, pacman, Floyd, Thurman, porter, Guerrero, brook, khan and maidana already campaign there. It's already a stacked division and will be getting much deeper in the near future.
It's the most recognized division at the moment with casuals, but I was never excited about the division. Flyweight and cruiserweight are running hot right now.
yeah, forgot about bradley...and it's fittin that i should. bradley is a top fighter, but he looks like he's still dealing with the fallout from his WIN over pac....never seen a fighter be so traumatized by WINNING a decision... i don't really like bradley...his whole persona screams of wanting to be liked. very unbecoming of a grown man...go in there, and do your thing your way and win....don't go in there talking about you're gonna knock pac out and and trying to slug it out with chavez and provodnikov. why would you do that? wtf are you trying to prove?...not smart. bradley was an atg 140 pounder... he has the talent to be a pretty good champ at ww, but to me he's a knucklehead. he doesn't have the temperament of a winner like floyd.
Still the deepest pool of talent in boxing. Floyd/Manny are still there. Brook, Khan, Thurman, Bradley,Porter, Maidana. You have Ali and Spence, Ponomarev,Vasquez coming through. Garcia could well be moving up. Still more top fights to be made in that division than any other
