I've always thought if they got guys like Gonzalez/ Estrada/ Inoue/ etc, and create a Krusher/ GGG like following only slightly smaller (think prime Donaire/ Darchinyan level).

Much better for boxing than trying to make a quick buck by promoting coddled hype jobs like Broner and Ortiz as the next Mayweather/ De La Hoya

The fact that many guys have taken the trolling to heart and believe Raymi is anything beyond a joke is... well, a joke.

    Agree with this completely.

I've always clamored for HBO/Showtime/anyone to get involved with sub-135... particularly 112 for the last 5 years.

No dominant of unbeaten? Usyk, Kudryashov, Makabu with one loss, Gassiev, Dorticos all exciting KO artists. They could do something with these guys for sure.

I'm kind of surprised at the lack of faith in Sosa making the final bell. :think

I expect he'll take a horrible beating as it wears on, but this will be his sixtieth professional contest and the man has only ever been stopped twice: by Chango Vargas during the Clinton administration (and remember, until Estrada & Rodriguez, a much older version of Chango had given Chocolatito his toughest test to date as well), then by the dangerous and underrated Mayol in a really bad style match-up for Sosa where he was actually stopped standing, though he was getting lit up against the ropes.

Among the many foes that were either world class guys with a fair dig or guys who just had world-class power are: Segura before he became shot overnight, Yaegashi, Pong, Jaro, Viloria, Keb Baas, Romero, Ikehara, Salado, Solis...and only down I think like 4x, ever.

Granted, making it twelve against González is a rarity, done just once in the last five years (since Vargas did it), and that was the very durable and skilled Gallo Estrada - but still. I don't think Sosa is hopeless.

Part of the reason I wish theyd held off on making Monroe fight. That, and if Monroe was able to get a bit more exp first I think he'd have a genuine shot.

But I wouldn't worry too much. The people who are going to really hate on the fight are just the usual suspect who basically gate on Golovkin anyhow.

Remember - pretty recently HBO minted a bunch of stars feasting almost entirely on actual bums before they jettisoned Haymon. GGG and Gonzalez aren't going to be much the worse for wear as long as the performance is entertaining, even if there is a percentage of the clueless who are ignorant enough to confuse these opponents for bums.

To a casualish guy, youd think a guy who won a tourney and beat up the guy who beat Chavez would be considered legit, and the only people who even know who Gonzalez is, or that 35 is old for flyweight.... basically all post here.

I think Gonzalez will be alright, if he wipes out Sosa- like Golovkin was after crushing Proska on his HBO debut.

Golovkin won't get a lot of credit, but then again, he won't get any credit off the usual suspects for beating any fighter at 160.

This is great news! Can't wait for domino effect and enter Gallo Estrada, Chihuas Rodriguez, Monster Inoue, and Amnat Ruenroeng! Likes of Viloria are still very dangerous he can upset an elite and he's done it before. GGG and Chocolatito on the same card, genius!

How many more opportunities is the WBC going to hand Sosa for this belt?

True, Sosa has already tried for it and gone 0-2 but he keeps dusting himself off and keeping himself rated and in the mix.

Before he challenged Pong he was on a run of 4-0 (3) in consecutive WBC Int'l flyweight title bouts. Then he went 2-0 in subsequent Int'l title bouts and 4-0 (3) in WBC Silver title bouts - including an eliminator win over longtime rival and streaking elite Archie Solis, before challenging Yaegashi. Granted neither of his wins since the Yaegashi loss have been anything special but his rating probably didn't sink too low off that and he had banked lots of work by then to secure it (and didn't exactly get blown out by Akira)

Edgar Sosa is a top 10 Flyweight and has been for a good minute now.

On surface value: beating Sosa > beating Monroe

Maybe Monroe goes on to be a legend and the win is a GREAT one 5 years from now. Or maybe he retires after the fight and goes down as a (relative to a top fighter) nobody who beat Bryan Vera and won an ESPN2 tournament once.

You guys value your own personal hopes and expectations of future events way too much. How many times will you have to be proven wrong about various fighters' potentials to realize you can only value on WHAT HAS HAPPENED, not what you think or hope might happen under ideal circumstances in the future... C'mon.

I guess Denis Grachev has an ATG historic win over Ismayl Sillakh from a few years ago. Because I can bump all the threads where all of you guys thought in 2010/11 that Sillakh would be the #1 LHW in the world by 2012. So, is Grachev dispatching Sillakh an A+ victory because you guys all thought Sillakh would go on to be great?

What are those fighters rated at? Are any of them even top 10 in their division? I'll check boxrec.

How the hell did Usyk get to 12th place fighting six cans? This division must be more **** than I thought. Kudrashov is 11, with only 16 fights. Makabu is listed as 17th. Dorticos is 15th. Probably all hype jobs anyway if Usyk could get to 12th place fighting that kind of opposition.
