Let's say the winner of may-PAC goes on to lose their next fight. Idc if it's against khan, Thurman, porter.... Would it mean much of anything or would you just chall it up to they had nothing more to prove.

Are you asking would the person beating them deserve credit?

    They absolutely would, of course.

  3. I think the OP is asking if Pac or Floyd's legacy would take a massive hit if the winner lost his next fight. Like if Pac beat Floyd, but then got schooled by Alexander.

they would deserve credit for getting a win on either pac or floyd but considering its def floyds last fight after may pac and pac would not be to far behind him, considering how much they have declined it would not mean to much in the grand scheme of things

It wouldn't hurt Pacquiao much, but Alexander would deserve credit.

it is if you rate beating weight drained fighters, shot old men and guys coming off devastating losses

  8. Since you have "Dinamita" under your user name, I assume you are a JMM fan. Does this mean that you don't really rate JMM's KO victory Pac?

Would it mean anything for the fighter? Probably not. People, including myself, would probably chalk it up to being ring-worn or near retirement.

Both are close to retirement, I don't think a lose would hurt their legacy too much

To be clear I meant Floyd and PAC not the guy who beats them.

I think it would hurt their legacy more than it should. Either guy will be coming off the biggest win I their careers, and to go from that to a loss would be devistating.

Now will I knock either of them for losing, no, but a lot of others will.

    I completely disagree.

The win overshadows whatever comes after it.

Mayweather could be KO1ed by Cesar Rene Cuenca. That won't erase him defeating Pacquiao.

Likewise, Pacquiao could get KTFO in a Bradley rubber match, and it simply wouldn't matter one lick if he were coming off a W over Mayweather.

That's how it should be, but fighters aren't always remembered for their greatest wins, but instead are remembered for their losses.

For example look at rjj. That tarver fight has tarnished his resume.

Do you remember Taylor for beating Hopkins?

Do you remember pavlik for beatin taylor, or for losing to Sergio and Hopkins.

This isn't early enough in their careers where they can rebound back. I

Well, funny you mention Tarver - using him for an example, I think history looks fondly upon him with Jones II being the primary remembrance associated with his career, rather than losing to Glen Johnson months later. (or getting shut out by a weight-skipping Hopkins later still, after Johnson II and Jones III; or looking tepid in consecutive losses to Dawson; or testing positive for nandrolone...)

Even now but more so 50 years from now, people are going to free-associate the name Antonio Tarver with "Got any excuses tonight, Roy?" more than with anything else about him.

A big W is a big W and carries lots of weight.
