PBC will take over for FNF

    It looks like Friday Night Fights is getting retired. In it's place, ESPN and ABC will air Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions series. Haymon isn't playing around with this. PBC will now air on 3 of the 4 biggest American networks.

    While FNF is going to go away from what I have read, PBC will have a Saturday show once a month. The Friday fights will be on Spike.

    But, this is just part of the network takeover that Haymon is trying to accomplish. This was more bought time, apparently.

    It's all basically a series of infomercials for the PBC product to try and attract advertisers. PBC is attempting to be the UFC of boxing, with multiple network coverage, it's own fighters, and it's own championships. This is why Thurman was not wearing his title during his ring entrance, and the post fight winner was announced as "and still... undefeated!"

    If no advertisers want a piece, then this will all just be another failed experiment. Previous boxing on network TV by Main Events, was more traditional in nature, where the network gave Main Events a $150k budget to put on a show and pay the fighters. Main Events worked within that budget during their contract with NBC, however the NBC brass had to pull the plug because no advertisers were calling to buy up ad time.

    Looks like Atlas and Tessitore will be the announcers for both the ESPN cards as well as the ABC cards that Haymon is doing.
