A lot of fans are saying they want Manny to beat FMJ "for the good of boxing" what exactly does this mean?

I am a Manny fan and my heart wants him to win but even the prime 2009 doesn't beat FMJ as his style plays right into the hands of FMJ but that aside just wanted to know why some people see FMJ as bad for the sport?

I think he's very good for the sport and brings in a lot of views and gets casual people interested etc plus you have to admire his skills. He is a "coward type" but he is great at not getting hit personally I don't like defensive fighters but give credit to the ones who pull of such a style to the effect he has done.

I would rather see him fight someone like Lara or Trout or even Khan as their styles would give him problems. Personally I feel Manny is a cherry pick for him.

LOL Pacquiao's style is all wrong for Mayweather.

Because they don't like Floyd, as simple as that. He the remnant of the former black US boxing supremacy and this hurt their feelings, if Floyd lose, the EU and Asian boxers will have mostly taken over the sport.

I don't see how Floyd losing is good for boxing either.

I think what they mean is Mayweather is bad for boxing because fans look up to him and idolize him, and he's not necessarily a good role model. While, if Pacquiao wins, it would be good for boxing because the fans of boxing now look up to good role model.

I mean that's what I'm guessing. Maybe it's also because they feel Mayweather cherry-picks and has made the undefeated "0" such a big deal, that boxers now feel like it's okay to fight tomato cans to keep the zero and Floyd kinda started that.

I'm not really sure though! This is just speculation.

I dont like when people use that word "cherry-pick". The same can be said about Manny. The fact is they are both so good that they make their opponents look ordinary.
By the way, I dont think either of them are good role models, nor do I care. I watch them for their boxing skills. Parents should be role models for their kids not athletes.

On first glance it looks fantastic, but it could turn out to be pretty bad.

If Floyd loses, gets mocked a lot and clearly loses his status, all those cherrypicking 0 worshippers that are filling the ranks now might scare away from ever stepping up to fight the best in their division.
Wich makes the situation even worse as it already has become.

Manny positive come forward aggressive fighting style. Good for Ratings.
Floyd negative retreating defensive fighting style. Bad for Ratings.

    So........yeah pretty much.:thumbsup

Even a fool should realize that a Pac win would be the bigger story.

If that's true why are their PPV figures around the same and why isn't an ultra aggressive guy like ruslan or an Ortiz getting more viewers than FMJ?

Don't get me wrong I would rather watch both of them over FMJ but he has a certain appeal despite cherry picking and being boring.

Thats already happening now and part of the reason why floyd is bad for boxing. floyd stands for making millions of dollars for little risk by skillfully dodging the toughest challenges available. Guys floyd should absolutely had fought:

    Paul Williams
    Margarito
    Sergio
    Prime Cotto
    Prime Manny
