Although somewhat marginalized the past few years, ESPN boxing's history is how long? I can't legit see them s****ping this for an upstart. I'd be shocked?! :huh you can't say s.c.r.a.p. on here?
When Vince McMahon took over WCW and ECW everybody thought it would be a great idea, but what ensued was the birth of a monopoly and lack of outside competition, which caused the product to stagnate and turn to ****. Haymon is on the cusp of potentially destroying Boxing as we know and oversaturating the market which will eventually lead to fans not caring anymore. This is terrible news.
I don't know how to feel about this. I mean clear as day now that Haymon is looking to create the boxing equivalent of UFC, a closed organization, his own champs etc.....
Al Haymon isn't the Alpha and Omega of boxing. Fewer cards with only PBCs stable ever spotlighted. This is a sad day.
I'm not sure why people are down on this. Many of the fights you were watching on premium cable, you can now see on broadcast T.V or basic cable. And it's not like FNF was putting on great cards on a consistent basis. The low licensing fees that FNF fights was notorious for paying out was a big reason for that. Somehow, Haymon is able to pay these guys a lot more money, which is going to lead to better fights.
I stopped reading after "When Haymon runs out of money" that dude is never running out of money bro. i cant even Imgaine how much hes getting from May-Pac. that will cover the next 2-5 years easily for his fighters!! then if they have a rematch...man o man. dont worry about his money, his not that means hes got alot!
They've only had two shows so far. And all you can do as a match maker is to put together good fights on paper and let the fighters do the rest. Broner vs. Molina and Thurman vs. Guerrero was a good card on paper. Friday's card was better than the cards you typically see on FNF. They have Garcia vs. Peterson, Stevenson vs. Bika and Dirrell vs. Degale on tap as well. I'm not sure how putting these type of matchups on broadcast TV and basic cable is a bad thing. Then again, maybe people on this board like to go the PPV route or pay for premium cable networks to watch fights. As far as the financial aspect of this endeavor, why do you care? No money is coming out of your pocket. Risk is inherent to every business venture. Maybe this fails, maybe this succeeds. It doesn't make any sense to me why anyone would criticize a guy for trying to put good fights on more accessible channels.
